THURSDAY NIGHT LIGHTS WALKING STARTS WITH A BANG

The Killeagh Healthy Clubs Project in association with Killeagh GAA will be ‘lighting up’ for the months of January & February every Thursday from January 9th until February 27th from 7pm until 8:30pm for all in your family and everyone in the local community to take advantage of walking around our facilities. Last week, we started with over 140 people joining us walking in excess of 500km between them. Let’s make both those figures bigger this Thursday. The weather forecast looks to be decent as Storm Brendan will be gone. And as you saw last week, we are in the middle of finishing our work on our new pathway which is on the outside of our new perimeter fencing of the main field.

So, do you want to get moving and active this New Year, but you have nowhere to go? Do you find it hard to find a safe and well-lit area to go for a walk, run or a jog during the dark winter months? Well, Killeagh GAA club has the answer! Why not join us for a walk ‘n’ talk with your friends or family and call in after for a cuppa or some fruit to keep you entertained on the walk, all for FREE!!

Or if you want to go for a jog/run in preparation for the 4 Mile Road Race on March 1st, join a group of runners at 7:30pm which is led by Dave Barry. The group take in a long loop (1km) on the outside perimeter of Páirc Uí Chinnéide.

For our walkers, one full lap on the new pathway around our field is exactly 500m, so if you complete 10 laps, that is 5KM!! It will be a great way and incentive to get fit for the year 2020 ahead. We want everyone to come and join for Killeagh GAA Lights Up 2020!

BEST OF LUCK TO OUR NEIGHBOURS FR O’NEILLS & RUSSELL ROVERS

Best of Luck to both Fr O’Neills & Russell Rovers who both play their respective All Ireland Finals on Saturday January 18th. Fr O’Neills will play Tullaroan of Kilkenny in the Intermediate final at 6pm while Russell Rovers will play Coheny Shamrocks in the Junior Final at 4pm, both games will be played in Croke Park. Best of luck to both East Cork sides in the final.

BEST WISHES TO OUR FRIENDS AT KILLEAGH POINT TO POINT

Best wishes to our friends at Killeagh Point to Point race committee who run their meeting next Sunday January 19th. We would urge our members to attend this great social occasion which is only two miles south from our clubhouse on the Killeagh-Ballymacoda road. Also, Killeagh Camogie club will hold one of many annual fundraiser selling Teas, Coffees, Soup & Sandwiches at the meeting too!

SEAN LAVERY MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT

Last Sunday, we completed the Sean Lavery Tournament for the Minor Footballers which celebrated a great football man in our club who is missed by all. The finals were run off last Sunday in Páirc Uí Chinnéide where the Red & Yellow teams produced an entertaining game of Football which has three parts to it. There are three periods of 20 mins, one period of Goals Only, the next of Goals and Points of equal value & normal scoring. In a cracking game, it was the Yellow team led by Paul Delaney who came from 8 points down at halfway point rattled back to win by 10.

Afterwards, there was some refreshments in the Hall where Sean’s son Ross presented the Sean Lavery Memorial plaque to the winning captain. Thanks to the players for their efforts over the last two weekends. Now we look forward to the Under 21 Football Championship when it will start on February 1st. The draws for this competition will be made this week.

KILLEAGH HEALTHY CLUBS – KILLEAGH GAA CLUB, KILLEAGH/ITAS JUVENILE CLUB, KILLEAGH CAMOGIE CLUB & INCH ROVERS LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB

One of the aspects of the Healthy Clubs Initiative in Killeagh is our walking group. The walks vary hugely and are suitable for all fitness levels. We have had some great family outings including walking the Atlantic Pond (Mahon, Cork), Glenbower Woods, Beach walks and more recently Spike Island. Lots of the walks are local and we have had very pleasant trips to Lismore, Knockadoon Cliff Walk and a historic walk of Cork City followed by breakfast.

Our most challenging walks were climbing Carrauntoohill, Galtee Mór, and a group of 30 travelled to Spain to complete a section of the Camino de Santiago. We have an Open Meeting on Thursday Jan 16th at 8:30pm in the Meeting Rooms after the walk. We want to plan our calendar of events including our Monthly Walks. So, if you have any new ideas, or know someone who might be interested in joining us, new members are always welcome. If you are interested in joining, please contact Liz Sinclair 087-6137393! Spread the Word!
