KILLEAGH/ITAS JUVENILE FUNDRAISING QUIZ

Last Friday January 3rd, there were 21 tables who went to blow out the cobwebs and get the brains working for the New Year as the Annual Killeagh/Itas GAA Juvenile Fundraising Table Quiz took place at the Old Thatch in Killeagh. All monies raised which totaled to over €1300 went towards the development of the Juvenile Club for 2020!

The winners on the night were Brendan Barry, Niall & Colm Crowley and William Murphy amassing a huge 69 correct answers out of 80 questions on the night! Well done lads!

Once again, thanks to all those who took part on the night, to those who donated spot prizes for our raffle, to those who organised the quiz so efficiently and to our correctors who worked tirelessly all night long. But there would be no quiz without our quizmaster and thanks to Colman Motherway for putting together the quiz. The ‘muinteoir’ was around watching the 84 pupils working overtime to answer all 80 questions! Everyone’s contributions, big or small is all appreciated!

THURSDAY NIGHT LIGHTS WALKING STARTS JANUARY 9TH

Once again, in association with the Killeagh Healthy Clubs Project & RTÉ’s Operation Transformation, Killeagh GAA will be ‘lighting up’ for 8 weeks every Thursday from January 9th until February 27th from 7pm until 8:30pm for all in your family and everyone in the local community to take advantage of walking around our facilities. Last year, we had hundreds of people walking on a weekly basis around the environs of our GAA club and since last year, we have developed a new walkway which will be in use in early January on the outside of our new perimeter fencing of the main field.

So, do you want to get moving and active this New Year, but you have nowhere to go? Do you find it hard to find a safe and well-lit area to go for a walk, run or a jog during the dark winter months?  Well, Killeagh GAA club has the answer! Why not join us for a walk ‘n’ talk with your friends or family and call in after for a cuppa or some fruit to keep you entertained on the walk, all for FREE!!

One full lap on the new pathway around our field is exactly 500m, so if you complete 10 laps, that is 5KM!! It will be a great way and incentive to get fit for the year 2020 ahead. We want everyone to come and join for Killeagh GAA Lights Up 2020!

ROAD RACE

The 5th annual Killeagh GAA 4 Mile Road Race in association with the Killeagh Healthy Clubs project will take place on Sunday March 1st with a start time of 11am. You can get your training done over the next 8 Thursdays!! More details to follow regarding the race over the coming weeks.

SEAN LAVERY MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT

On Sunday January 12th, we will run the Sean Lavery Tournament final for the Minor Footballers to celebrate a great football man in our club who is missed by all. We will run the competition off next Sunday starting at 3pm to get our season off and running, especially when the Under 21 Football Championship will be starting in February.

2020 COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DRAWS

It is a dawn of a new era for the Cork County Championship because for the first time in the history of them, there will be a round robin series to determine a ranking for respective teams. All Draws were carried out and Killeagh have been drawn in Group 1 of the Senior A Hurling Championship alongside Newcestown, Kanturk & Cloyne.

The top 3 in each group in the competition will qualify for the quarter final stages while the bottom team in each group will be sent for the relegation play offs. Fixtures are due to be confirmed shortly. Roll on 2020.

NEW LIVE SCORING APP RIGHT TO YOUR SMARTPHONE – WHAT'S THE SCOR

We are currently testing out a new phone application called “Whats The Scor”. We are running tests currently with the notes & notifications segments on it as well as the Live Scoring feature. We are hoping by start of year 2020, that the whole club will have the facility. It will be used at various championship & league games for the club.

There are some advertising slots for any local businesses to be filled by the New Year on the new app for Killeagh GAA club. KILLEAGH HEALTHY CLUBS – KILLEAGH GAA CLUB, KILLEAGH/ITAS JUVENILE CLUB, KILLEAGH CAMOGIE CLUB & INCH ROVERS LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB

One of the aspects of the Healthy Clubs Initiative in Killeagh is our walking group. The walks vary hugely and are suitable for all fitness levels. We have had some great family outings including walking the Atlantic Pond (Mahon, Cork), Glenbower Woods, Beach walks and more recently Spike Island. Lots of the walks are local and we have had very pleasant trips to Lismore, Knockadoon Cliff Walk and a historic walk of Cork City followed by breakfast.

Our most challenging walks were climbing Carrauntoohill, Galtee Mór, and a group of 30 travelled to Spain to complete a section of the Camino de Santiago. New members are always welcome, if you are interested in joining, please contact Liz Sinclair 087-6137393!
