KILLEAGH GAA NEWS, December 15th 2019

By Patrick Mulcahy, Killeagh GAA PRO

To all our members, players and supporters, on behalf of the Executive of Killeagh GAA Club, we would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous and peaceful New Year. Let’s keep the ball rolling for 2020, more success both on and off the field. Our Registration day takes place on Sunday February 9th 2020, do take note of this!

The Lotto continues over the next few weeks before the year close. The annual Long Púc will take place on December 26th from Mount Uniacke to Killeagh Village. It starts at 11am in teams of three. There is prizes for all categories throughout the club from Under 14 all the way up to the vintage section. All ages are welcome! Do join us to work off all that Turkey & Ham from Christmas Day!!

Then on January 3rd, the Annual Killeagh-Itas GAA Juvenile Fundraising Table Quiz takes place at the Old Thatch in Killeagh. Teams of 4 cost just €40 with all monies raised will go towards the development of the Juvenile Club for 2020! Your support would be greatly appreciated!

Killeagh GAA Lights up returns in January as we turn our lights on for the local community to go walking around our club grounds. Stay tuned here for more information on that as it happens.

A huge thank you to all our Silver and Gold Supporters Club members who have contributed so much to helping to keep our club afloat year on year. All those Silver & Gold Supporters of the club will get a ‘Killeagh GAA Supporters Club Car Sticker’ over the next few weeks. If you want to be included in this draw each year, please contact Tim Crotty, Colman Motherway or any committee member regarding this important fundraiser for the club.

It is a dawn of a new era for the Cork County Championship because for the first time in the history of them, there will be a round robin series to determine a ranking for respective teams. All Draws were carried out and Killeagh have been drawn in Group 1 of the Senior A Hurling Championship alongside Newcestown, Kanturk & Cloyne.

The top 3 in each group in the competition will qualify for the quarter final stages while the bottom team in each group will be sent for the relegation play offs. Fixtures are due to be confirmed shortly. Roll on 2020.

We are currently testing out a new phone application called “Whats The Scor”. We are running tests currently with the notes & notifications segments on it as well as the Live Scoring feature. We are hoping by start of year 2020, that the whole club will have the facility. It will be used at various championship & league games for the club.

There are some advertising slots for any local businesses to be filled by the New Year on the new app for Killeagh GAA club. If you are interested in advertising on the app which has 40,000 followers, please contact Patrick Mulcahy for more information.. More information of the app  & much more can be found through the PRO or you can download the app right now, find Killeagh GAA Club and follow the action by ‘Like’ by the heart button on the bottom right of the page.

One of the aspects of the Healthy Clubs Initiative in Killeagh is our walking group. The walks vary hugely and are suitable for all fitness levels. We have had some great family outings including walking the Atlantic Pond (Mahon, Cork), Glenbower Woods, Beach walks and more recently Spike Island. Lots of the walks are local and we have had very pleasant trips to Lismore, Knockadoon Cliff Walk and a historic walk of Cork City followed by breakfast.

Our most challenging walks were climbing Carrauntoohill, Galtee Mór, and a group of 30 travelled to Spain to complete a section of the Camino de Santiago. New members are always welcome, if you are interested in joining, please contact Liz Sinclair 087-6137393!

Our next walk takes place next Sunday 22nd December as the Killeagh Healthy Clubs project walk No. 47 heads from Blackrock Castle at 10am, heading for Mahon & Passage. If you are interested, please text Liz Sinclair on 087-6137393. All are welcome.

We have re-stocked our shop with new training tops and shorts for Killeagh GAA & Killeagh Camogie. We have a limited number of stock available so advice is to get in early! Our Club Shop will be open on Wednesday 18th 7:30-8:30pm, on Saturday 21st from 10:30am to 11:30am & finally for the late shoppers on Monday 23rd Dec from 6:30pm ‘til 7:30pm. The Club shop will remain closed until our registration day in February. And if you forget your cash, we have credit card facilities available for you.

For 2020, if you are looking to book the pitch or hall for ANY training sessions or matches, please contact the Chairperson or PRO this week regarding such. Pitches can be block booked for various reasons and need to be checked with committee before being trained on. You can also check bookings on the screen monitor in the clubhouse.
