KILLEAGH GAA NEWS, December 1st 2019

By Patrick Mulcahy, Killeagh GAA PRO

Our Fé 21 Hurlers are back in championship action next weekend as they take on Blackrock in the Premier 1 Under 21 Hurling Championship Quarter Final on Páirc Uí Chaoimh’s 4G Pitch next Saturday with throw in at 5:15pm. Your support would be appreciated to the lads for this big game.

There has been confusion over the last two months regarding the finishing result of Group 2 after the Lisgoold v Youghal game was postponed on various occasions. It went back to the East Cork Board and both teams were forced in playing on last Sunday. Youghal won that game meaning they top the table while Glenbower Rovers now finish second and are in the East Cork Semi Final and face Cobh in the competition. Time to get those shorts, gloves & socks back on once again!

Our inaugural Killeagh GAA Supporters Club Draw (formerly Development Contribution Scheme) took place at the Old Thatch last Friday night after the Mass for our Deceased Members. Thanks to all who turned out in force to support us once again and thanks to Brian ‘Blondie’ Barry who hosted us.

1st €2,000 – Helen Kennedy

2nd €1,000 – Colm Crowley

3rd €250 - Fr. Pakie Lawton

4th €250 - Eamon Byrne

5th €250 - Pat O’Callaghan

One of the aspects of the Healthy Clubs Initiative in Killeagh is our walking group. The walks vary hugely and are suitable for all fitness levels. We have had some great family outings including walking the Atlantic Pond (Mahon, Cork), Glenbower Woods, Beach walks and more recently Spike Island. Lots of the walks are local and we have had very pleasant trips to Lismore, Knockadoon Cliff Walk and a historic walk of Cork City followed by breakfast.

Our most challenging walks were climbing Carrauntoohill, Galtee Mór, and a group of 30 travelled to Spain to complete a section of the Camino de Santiago. New members are always welcome, if you are interested in joining, please contact Liz Sinclair 087-6137393!
