Imokilly GAA Yearbook Launch

18 February, 2010

The Imokilly Year Book compiled by East Cork Journal Sports writer, Declan Barron and printed by Ger Flanagan was launched on Wednesday last February 17th at Midleton GAA Pavilion by East Cork Board Chairman Michael O’Brien. The book which is a first for the Imokilly division looks back on a marvellous season within the division. It has every club covered and is a really fine publication.

Speaking at the launch, Michael O’Brien said that this type of book was long overdue and he was delighted to be able to recommend it to all of the GAA people in the division. It is a wonderful read, he said as well as a great record for future generations to look back on. It is something that will last and hopefully something that will continue into the future. He praised the author Declan Barron for his continued interest and promotion of all the clubs within the division. He hoped that it would go well and recommended it to all GAA people in the division.

Declan Barron spoke about being asked to do the project with Ger Flanagan and between them a lot of work went into getting it together. 2009 was a great year for East Cork within the GAA and that fact is recognised in the book. The publication also contains the 2010 Cork GAA draws, East Cork Adult GAA draws and the East Cork Juvenile GAA draws for 2010 so it will be a very useful book to have as well. Declan said that for clubs taking 25 books that they would go into a draw for a set of jerseys and this idea seems to have went down well with the clubs. He thanked the clubs, referee’s and board officers for their cooperation during the year and hoped that this book reflects just how strong the GAA is in East Cork.

Chairman of Cork County Board, Jerry O’Sullivan also welcomed the publication and congratulated Declan and Ger on a really fine publication. He said it contains some wonderful pictures, right from underage to Scór and All Ireland Finals and County Finals covering both clubs and county competition and it is a wonderful addition to the GAA in East Cork.

The book is now on sale from clubs and shops across East Cork and clubs who were unable to make the launch but still wish to take books and enter the draw for the Jerseys can contact Declan directly on 087-9126566 or Flanagan Print 024-93358 to arrange delivery. The book costs €10 and is sure to be much sought after as a memory of a very special year in East Cork. The Imokilly 2010 year book and 2009 review will now take its place in the history of the division as well and is a book that will be of interest to everyone involved in the GAA in East Cork.
