ROCKIES EDGE OUT THE HOSTS IN A 90 MINUTE THRILLER

Rebel Óg Central Premier 2 Minor Hurling League Semi-Final

Blackrock 3-15 Killeagh/Ita's 1-20

After over 90 minutes of intense hurling including extra time and additional time, our minor hurlers finished their 2019 campaign with a narrow one point defeat to county finalists Blackrock on a wet Tuesday evening in Pairc Ui Chinneide. Ciaran O'Rourke, Olan Broderick, Ryan McCarthy and Ciaran Leahy were all on the scoresheet in the first quarter, but Blackrock's two goals in 3rd and 12th minutes gave them a 2-3 to 0-6 lead. A goal by Ciaran O'Rourke minutes later levelled matters. It was level at half time and level at the three-quarter hour mark (1-11 to 2-8) and when Blackrock went three ahead we bravely replied to tie it on the hour 1-14 to 2-11.

Extra time saw Blackrock edge ahead with a goal on 68 minutes. We levelled in the 73rd minute before the Rockies went two ahead again. Searching for a winner, Ciaran Leahy fizzled a point just over the crossbar and a late free from distance from Dara Motherway was also centimetres over the bar. Finally, the clock beat us as Shane Hodgins blew his whistle for the last time at almost 10pm. A huge effort from both teams and great credit to our panel and management of Adrian, David, Paul and Aaron for a very positive year, albeit one without silverware.

Team: Brian Murphy; Dan Lucey, Ritchie Landers, Darragh O’Connor; George Walsh, Dara Motherway, Christian Coughlan; Cathal Fitzgibbon, Paul Delaney; Ciaran Leahy, Rob Sinclair, Ciaran O’Rourke; Olan Broderick, Ryan McCarthy, Jamie Fogarty. Subs Used; Cian McDonald, Remy Bernard, Daniel Doherty.

KILLEAGH CAMOGIE NOTES

Tricia Treacy Senior County Semi Final On Sunday last our Senior team travelled to Castle Road to take on reigning 3 in a row County Champions Inniscarra. The game started at a frantic pace and after missing some early chances Killeagh were behind by 2 pts before opening their account. The opening half was a tough and a hard fought encounter. Stefanie was playing with great confidence in goal made a point blank save from Niamh McCarthy and some good scores from Chloe spurred on Killeagh who finished the half strongly but were still 2pts down at half time. Inniscarra played with the wind in the second half but it was Killeagh who brought the game to them. Our back line was outstanding keeping their big players quiet and limiting their supply of ball. Up front we were finding it hard to break down a dogged Inniscarra defence. Some great scores from Laura, Caoimhe and Chloe got Killeagh a point ahead with a few minutes left but late in the game Inniscarra got their opportunity to level the game and thus take it to a replay. 0-10 to 0-10 it finished in front of a huge crowd at Castle Road and we do it all over again next Friday night.
