A full house crowd attended this year's Senior AGM on Friday 15th January in Club Arás which was preceeded by Mass celebrated by our Honoury President Fr. Ben Cotter in memory of all deceased club members. After the Chairman's address and the 2009 reports were delivered the following 2010 officers were elected.

Start Date for Indoor Hurling Blitz – 30th January

Blitz – Starting with Under 8’s Teams - Indoor Hurling Club Arás, Youghal

Fergal Keenaghan and committee are organizing hurling and football blitz’s over the coming months to be held at Club Arás and the first hurling indoor blitz was held on Saturday last the 30th January at Club Arás. Under 8 Indoor Hurling Match Blitz Report

On Saturday 30th January Eochaill Og held an Under 8 hurling Blitz in Club Aras. With Eochaill Og fielding two teams and Killeagh , Lisgoold, Clashmore and Cois Bhride taking part. This was 7 aside games with the emphasis on all players getting game time.

The first blitz saw the Youghal boys take on Killeagh and Cois Bhride. First up was Eochaill Og Vs Killeagh. This game saw both teams very committed and finished 9-6 to Killeagh. The second game was Killeagh Vs Cois Bhride with Killeagh stronger in the second half, and winning 6-4. The last game saw the Youghal boys play Cois Bhride. Both teams settled into the game quickly with both teams even at half time. The second half saw the home team take control finish the game as winners.

In the second blitz @ 4pm Eochaill Og took on Lisgoold and Clashmore. The first game was Eochaill Og Vs Clashmore with the Deise boys winning. The second game between Clashmore and Lisgoold was the best game of the day, with both teams putting in a fine display. In the end this game ended in a draw 5-5. The last game saw Eochaill Og Vs Lisgoold with Lisgoold winning on a score line of 6-2. With both teams putting in fine displays, this ended or days hurling.

A big thank you to all parents and Club members who helped out on the day. Well done to all players who played on the day and represented their clubs with pride. Thanks also goes to Brendan Ring, Chris Morrisson , Matthew Farrell and Andrew Joyce who Refereed the games.

Intermediate Football Challenge – Youghal –v- Lisgoold – Saturday 30th Club Arás

Also on Saturday at Club Arás there was an Intermediate Football Challenge Youghal –v- Lisgoold, Saturday 30th.

Result: Lisgoold 2-7 Youghal 0-11

Match Report

This was a good game played in good conditions. A number of players played their first adult game and will benefit from the experience. In all 22 players were given game time and there was a competitive attitude all through.

After leading at half time the team tired visibly and were overtaken by Lisgoold and conceded 2 goals in the later stages of the game. It was still a useful outing and with regular training sessions now starting an improvement will be seen quickly. Both Intermediate and Junior teams will be playing their first league games during February.

Schools We hope to call to all local schools in the near future and will give them details of training times, events and activities taking place at Club Arás, Youghal.

Saturday Coffee Mornings Club Arás

I would also like to invite you to our new coffee morning on Saturdays between 9.30 a.m. - 1.30 p.m. in the Club. There is a hive of activity here on Saturday mornings as training starts at 9.30 a.m. and finishes at 1.30 pm for our Eochaill Óg members. We have opened up the kitchen to anybody who would like to have a cuppa while their kids are enjoying the coaching sessions. This is proving very popular and we are getting great suggestions & ideas from all the parents for all our upcoming events. As you will have seen the tremendous work that was put in place for the Halloween Party, Dinner Dance and Christmas parties and we would like to say a big Thank You to all involved.

We will be putting together a calendar of events that we will be coming up in the club that will cater for all. Preparations are already under way for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Street Leagues, Hurley & Football Blitz, Race Night, Fun Weekend, VHI GAA Cúl Camp, Teddy Bear Picnic just to name a few.

Vodafone - Support Your G.A.A. Club Programme

If you are a Vodafone customer you can now support your club by sending a text message with your name and number to Assumpta Parker on 087-1274418. If you do this she will be able to sign you up online and Youghal will get 5% of all future monies spent on your bill or pay as you go. When signed up Vodafone will text you to say Thank You. It won’t cost you anything and the 5% is a donation from Vodafone that was set up with the GAA to support Clubs. Club Lotto

There is a lot of lotto to be won at Youghal. The jackpot is currently over €19,710. Tickets costing €2 are available from the usual outlets and at the club house and over the coming weeks tickets are also available at Sean Twomey’s. Next draw Monday 1st February at Club Arás, Youghal.

Hurling Helmets

As of the 1st January 2010 – all hurlers of all ages and grades will be obliged to wear approved hurling helmets, complete with face guards.

Ball Alley now open at Club Arás

The ball alley is now open and is there is good use been made from it from all club members of all ages.

Michael Downing and Peter Queally also provided coaching recently for Eochaill Óg coaches & mentors. Well done to all involved in bringing this to fruition. I called there on Sunday last and it was great to see it in use and some of the older children were showing the younger children how to use it.

Fundraiser for Haiti

Fundraising Event for Haiti – Joint Venture

Coffee/Cake/Book – Bring & buy sale – Club Arás – Saturday 6th February

Time: 10 a.m. – 1.30 pm

We are also holding a Coffee/Cake and Book bring and buy sale on Saturday 6th of February at the Club in aid of the three Youghal guys heading out to Haiti in April next. This is a joint venture between Eochaill Óg and Davie Murphy for the coffee/cake morning and all proceeds will go directly to fund this trip and the book sale proceeds will go directly to John O’Riordan & Bobby Lee who are all taking part in this trip organised by Haven who will undertake to build houses by qualified tradesmen in April for the Haiti people who have been left devastated by the recent earthquake. This is a very worthwhile cause and we would encourage all to support.

Social Events

We are trying to increase the social aspect of the Club, not only for our younger members but also for their Parents & Guardians, families and Youghal Community. After the success of the dinner dance please see a number of events that are being held in the Club over the coming weeks.


Saturday 13th February next ….. ……. Have you got your ticket?

Following on from the success of the dinner dance, the club are hosting a James Bond Casino night on the 13th of February, doors open at 8 pm. The theme of the night will be James Bond 007 with the dress code for the gent’s Black and White and the girls, Chic. On arrival there will be a complimentary cocktail with canapés served throughout the evening. We will have our very own internationally renowned & award winning cocktail shaker (Andy Ferreira) with a full cocktail bar. Prizes will be awarded for best dressed Bond 007 & Bond Girl & plenty more. If you are looking for an event with thrills, spills and excitement book your ticket earlier to avoid disappointment. Needless to say there will be no stone unturned to make this just as good as the dinner dance held in November.

The cost will be a mere €20, and for this you will get your chips for gambling, drink on arrival, canapés and DJ to dance the night away in great surroundings. For a Saturday night and valentines weekend with a difference gather your friends and be shaken not stirred! Hope to see you all there for a great night’s entertainment and a first for Youghal. This event and it's patrons will be getting the full red carpet treatment. Tickets will be on from Monday night next from the Club & Bar.

Inter-club Quiz Competition – Friday 19th of February Start Time: 8 pm

On Friday the 19th of February next our first inter-club quiz night will be held at Club Arás, this is in aid of Youghal Community Hospital and over the past week all clubs have been written to inviting them to this event and we look forward to a great night of brain storming and fun. This will be an annual event at Club Arás and teams will consist of four all from different sporting clubs within the locality. The cost per table is €50 which is going directly to Youghal Community Hospital. It’s all for a very worthy cause and we will look forward to your support for this event. Over 60’s Talent Competition – Youghal Heat Irish Examiner Competition

The night before Aslan Friday the 5th March the Club are proud to host a heat of the famous Irish Examiner Over 60’s Talent Competition with the winner progressing to the semi final on April the 18th in the City Hall, Cork and the overall final will be held on May the 23rd also in City Hall. Full details will be made available over the coming few weeks. The date to remember is Friday March 5th and applicants are welcome for anyone who would like to attend. ASLAN – Saturday 6th March – Doors Open 8 pm

As you aware we are hoping to open the club up as a concert venue with a few acts in the pipeline over the coming months. We are kicking this off with the World famous ASLAN on Saturday March 6th. Tickets will be available on the door on the night for just €15. A very large crowd is anticipated as they are releasing a New Album around the same time and they have always been a big draw to Youghal. They will provide a great night’s entertainment and definitely one not to be missed right here at the GAA Pavillon Youghal!
