Lisgoold GAA Club News

Junior Hurling League Division 1 Lisgoold 0-18 (18) Carrignavar 4-18 (30) At Carrignavar

4th July 2019

A whirlwind start for the hosts as they raised three green flags within the first five minutes of this ensured they would take the two league points on offer in this encounter. A few notable absentees were missing in action but that was no excuse. It was a disappointing outing and although Lisgoold battled gamely afterwards through John Cronin, Cian Scannell, John Cashman and Caomhan O’Shea the lead was too much of a gap to close. It leaves Lisgoold still needing two points to secure their league status for next season.

Minor A Hurling Championship Quarter-Final Lisgoold 2-11 (17) St Colmans 1-16 (19) At Dungourney

8th July 2019

A missed opportunity for our minor hurlers last Monday night as they succumbed to a two-point defeat to the Shanagarry/Cloyne combination. In what was a tough, hard game of hurling played for the full hour, Lisgoold just did not produce enough to secure their passage to the semi-final. It was a bright start as points were traded with ours coming from hickey and kelly. Colmans got their sole green flag in the 13th minute which seemed to unnerve our lads, but they came roaring back and a lovely move involving O'Driscoll, Desmond and Walsh allowed Cathal Hickey the opportunity to race in a raise Lisgoold first major. Points and hits were traded as the game threatened to spill over a small bit, but the half-time whistle blew with Colmans ahead by a point (1-7 to 1-6).

In the second half it was just as intense and just as exciting. Both teams battled away, Colmans took the game by the scruff of the neck and opened with a few points (1-9 to 1-7). Lisgoold began to turn the tide with some great defending by goalie Evan Manning, James O'Driscoll (who had a marvellous game) and Robbie Kinane. There was an abundance of possession and chances followed with Lisgoold benefitting handsomely. The two highlights in this purple patch in which they scored 1-3 was a superb solo goal from Cathal and an outstanding point by James O'Driscoll ensured Lisgoold were ahead 2-10 to 1-10. Another great point by Tom Savage pushed Lisgoold that bit closer in the 49th minute but incredibly that was to be Lisgoold's last score of the match. A combination of poor decisions, bad shooting and ultimately some wonderful play by Colmans ensured it was our opponents that would emerge victorious. Lisgoold's wides tally of 19 to Colmans 5 tells its own story. However, this should not discredit St Colmans whose bravery, never say die spirit and determination got them over the line and we wish them well in the semi-final. As for our lads there is still a league title to play for and under 21 and junior competitions to compete for. As for this championship encounter it is a case of what might have been.
