KILLEAGH GAA NEWS, June 3rd 2019

East Cork Division 2 Hurling League Killeagh 2-21, Carrigtwohill 1-23

An exciting game of hurling with loads of scores finished with a one-point victory for our Division 2 team in Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Thursday evening last. Playing with a slight breeze, Killeagh had the better of the opening half, with Richie Long and Dara Motherway impressing on the right flank of attack, while Luke Fogarty's long range effort gave us our opening goal midway through the half. Dylan Coleman, Shane Kearney and Brendan Keniry were others to impress, while Dan Landers was also accurate from play and from frees.

The second half saw Carrig score three on the bounce before we got back up and running, and Luke Fogarty's second goal (an excellent catch and burst through the cover before a Shane O'Donnell type batting finish) gave us a ten point cushion with 15 minutes to go. However, Carrig whittled away at our lead and a goal and some long-range points reduced the margin to one with two minutes to go. Ger Collins' point on 60 minutes was our first score in quite a while, and it ultimately proved the winning score, as Carrig got one back but the clock beat them in their efforts to equalise. Well done to the players and management, who secured their second win in this league.

Team: Shane Scully, Brendan Keniry, Tadhg O'Connor, Owen Cosgrove, Barry Motherway, Tadhg Crotty, Shane Kearney, Ger Collins, Dylan Coleman, Dara Motherway, Padraic Carroll, Luke Fograrty, Richie Long, Dan Landers, Martin Fitzgerald, Rob Sinclair.

Munster Super Touch Under 15 10-a-side Blitz

Our Under 15 players, supplemented by two Under 14s, Pierce Geary and Dylan McCarthy, went on a road trip on Saturday June 1st to Knocklong, Co. Limerick. The reason? The annual Munster Super Touch 10-a-side hurling blitz, which was taking place across a range of venues in the province on the day and saw us grouped with hosts Garryspillane and Tipperary clubs Roscrea and Drom & Inch. Roscrea were our initial opponents, and they defeated us by 1-04 to 0-03, our scores coming from a Daniel Walsh brace (one from a free, one from play) and Rory Motherway. In the second game we had a mighty tussle with Drom & Inch, with the teams level at half time 0-05 to 1-02 (Rory, Ben Fogarty, Daniel and Danny Fitzgerald on the scoresheet) but two goals from Dylan McCarthy and some excellent defending from Ben Budds and Conor Meade in the second half saw us win by 2-06 to 2-03. Our final game was a shootout against our hosts, with neither side too bothered with defending, or much concerned with taking points either. At the end, we prevailed by 10-03 to 5-04 with Dylan, Daniel and David Buckley getting all the goals between them. Roscrea finished as blitz winners as they won their three games, while we finished as runners-up. Well done to the full panel and to Bainisteoir Martin Fitzgerald, and thank you to the travelling parents Janice, Pauline and Richie. Thank you to the Garryspillane club for their hospitality and to our other opponents Roscrea and Drom & Inch for an enjoyable day of hurling.

Team: Ben Budds, Pierce Geary, Tommy Morrison, Conor Meade, Ciaran Brennan, Rory Motherway, Ben Fogarty, David Buckley, Jake Mulcahy, Daniel Walsh, Danny Fitzgerald, Dylan McCarthy, Darragh O'Leary.

On Monday May 27th, the U13s took on Watergrasshill at home. The home side were first to put a score on the board, followed by a succession of scores in a cracking display of hurling.

Great team work and passing across the field saw us with a steady lead at half time. Killeagh Itas remained dominant in the second half with some fine scoring, namely an impressive 11-3 from Sean Meade, And 4 goals from Ben Walsh.

Final score; Killeagh/Itas 15-6 Watergrasshill 3-5

Killeagh Camogie

by Tricia Treacy

Killeagh Camogie U14s are taking part in this years  Feile na Gael national Camogie and Hurling tournament which is being hosted in Cork and Kerry. There are 96 teams participating from 28 counties with 2,304 players involved.
Killeagh Camogie would like to extend a huge welcome their host team St Rynagh’s from Co. Offaly who will stay with them for the weekend.
Matches will take place in Killeagh GAA on Friday evening and Saturday morning before travelling to compete in the quarter-finals and then onto semi-finals and finals on Sunday. We look forward to having a great weekend with our brilliant team of girls and our guests  and hope to make lifelong memories and friends in the process.

Our U10s continued their season with a game against St Catherines on Saturday. Super game played in a great competitive spirit. Well done to everyone.

It was our U11s who kick-started our week with a good victory over Fr. O'Neill's in a challenge on Saturday morning 25th and kept up that good form with another positive result against Castlemartyr on Tuesday evening. These matches are very important for the U11 girls and will definitely stand to them before stepping up to the more formal U12 County League matches next year.
It was a fitting way to end the week with our second win in the U12 County League over Mallow on Friday evening. In a match that started in windy and overcast conditions we went in 3-3 to 3-1 ahead at the break, having benefitted from the aid of a strong breeze.  Despite playing against elements in the second half every girl rose to the occasion and we closed out the match on a 4-4 to 3-2 scoreline. Even the sun came out at the end for the team photograph of tired but very happy girls.

Wishing all our girls involved in the Leaving Cert and Junior Cert our very best wishes as they begin their exams this week.
