RESULT
East Cork Junior Football Championship.
Dungourney 2-10 Lisgoold 1-10
Well our Junior Football bandwagon is still rolling on after a great win over a fancied Lisgoold side on Friday night last in Castlemartyr.
Lisgoold started well with a point in the first few minutes but it was nip and tuck for a while before Ryan Denny hit a blockbuster to the Lisgoold net ,back came Lisgoold though and points were exchanged before Lisgoold scored a goal themselves after a scramble in the Dungourney goal.
A point a piece were scored after that and it was Lisgoold who went in at half time leading on a score line of 1-05 to Dungourneys 1-04 but they had played with the advantage of a strong breeze.
The second half was just as frenetic as the first with no quarter asked for or given  a goal from James Mc Carthy puttting  us two points up after twelve second half minutes. Again Lisgoold came back at us but we were able to resist the tide despite losing Eoghan Ahern to a shoulder injury and we were able to extend our lead to three points.
Try as they might Lisgoold couldn’t break down the Dungourney backline to score the late goal that they needed and we ran out winners on a score line of 2-10 to 1-10 ,we will now meet Killeagh Itas in the quarter final next Sunday time and venue not yet arranged.
Dungourney scorers Brian Aherne 0-03,Ryan Denny 1-02,Shane Hegarty 0-02 James McCarthy 1-01 ,Bill Ahern 0-01 and Eoghan Ahern 0-01.

FAMILY DAY
A great crowd attended our inaugural “Family Fun day” on Sunday last, this was all about giving something back to the supporters who follow our teams through thick and thin and I think it was enjoyed by all and sundry.
There were many attractions organized and marshaled by the players for the children such as “beat the goalie”, “scoring wall”  and many others .Of course the bouncy castle was a big hit as well as the ice cream van and with crisps and minerals etc for the kids and a cup of tea and a cake for the adults who could beat it???
The pitch and it’s surroundings were a credit to all who help out and of course we got to show off our new gym and meeting rooms it’s great for people to see how good our facilities are and we appreciate all the financial help that the community gives us.
The highlight for many though was a fun match between the current team and a team of Dungourney “veterans” this promised to be an exciting encounter and so it transpired.
I’m not sure if the current team ever got out of first gear but the veterans put up a great display aided I must say by a very biased referee!!! It was great to roll back the years and see lads who gave us so much pleasure over the years take to the pitch again and give a great display though I must say that some of them are filling the jerseys a bit better than they did previously!!
In the match itself Aidan Rigney took the plaudits for man of the match with 2-04 from play and the veterans ran out controversial winners as Mike McGraths goal was ruled out by referee Peter Cody because it hadn’t crossed the line before the whistle was blown .....as I say biased!!
The teams got a great Cheer at the final whistle from the big crowd in the stand and they deserved it although it’s lucky that Monday was a bank holiday as I’d say there was a lot of sore limbs about and fellas stuck in baths with Epsom salts on the Monday.
