Premier Intermediate Hurling C/ship. 2019:

Fr. O’Neills 1:22 v Ballincollig 2:14

We started our Premier Intermediate Hurling C/ship. campaign on last Friday evening v last years Intermediate & Fe21 Premier 2 Hurling Champions Ballincollig, having to field without Cork panelist Ger. Millerick and a number of our more established regulars who were all out through injury a few of our younger players got the chance to show case their talents in Championship and to a man proved to be up to the job against a determined and well motivated Ballincollig side. In a game of fine margins it was the excellent free taking of Deccie Dalton and the superb shooting from play of Liam O’Driscoll coupled with a well taken goal from Mark O’Keeffe that had us in front at the short whistle by a couple of points. We lost our full back Adrian Kenneally at half time to a hand injury which saw the introduction of another of our young guns Jason Hankard for the second half and what a contribution he made through all aspects of his play, 10 mins into the half we lost Deccie to a recurrence of a troublesome knee injury so it was all hands to the pump from this moment on but as the half wore on more and more space became available to our forwards all of whom made their mark on the scoreboard as we stretched our lead to 4 points with about 10 mins remaining and we closed out the game with the last point of the game to see us winning on the above scoreline. So after all is said and done we are safely through to the 3rd rnd. And with up to 8 fellas due back over the next couple of months from long term injuries the Mgmt. Team should have a much stronger hand to play with when the next rnd. Comes around in late August / early Sept. so hats off to all the players and Mgmt. Team on a job well done last Fri. evening.
