Junior 4 Football League, Thursday April 4th

Glenville 2-12Midleton 1-08

Glenville delivered a seven-pointvictory over Middletonin the J4 football league in Fouhys lastThursday evening. The game was evenly contested in the opening quarter. Colm Fenton and Diarmuid McCarthy opened the scoring but Midleton responded to level after 10 minutes. Pauid Cahill had to go off injured and Glenville had to play the remaining of the opening half with 14 men. Inspite of this, we took a 4 point lead with points from Denis Buttimer, Pierce Maloney and two from Eoin Desmond. Midleton responded with a goal giving us a one point lead at half time.

TJFordes arrival athalf time brought us back up to 15 as we resumed the second half. TJ had an immediate effect scoring two goals and a point in the opening 10 minutes to give us a commanding lead. Midleton rallied with 4 points in a row but Glenville finished strongly. Eoin desmond had an excellent second scoring four points and Ger Hogan also chipped in with a point to give us a 212 to 108 victory. This was a good win and like our last game against Aghada, we had a good mix of scorers and all but one of our points came from play.

Glenville U9s hosted 2 well drilled St Nicks teams this morning. A great effort and performance from all the lads resulting in 3 wins out of 4 games played. Well done lads.

Glenville U10s travelled to Douglas this morning. The never-say-die attitude shone through with all lads battling harder and harder as the morning went on. Keep it up, lads!

Glenville U11's hosted killeagh today. Even though we were missing several players we still fielded 20 players. We had 2 teams playing unfortunately losing in both but certainly our boys battled to the end with one of the games being a titanic battle finishing on a score line of 5-21 to 4-15. A big thanks to Rob McKenna and Cael guichard for reffing the games today and they did a great job.

U14 football league:

Glenville 3-8

Aghada 6-7

Glenville lost out to Aghada inthe first game in the league. Short a good few players we started poor and were 10points down early on. Then we regrouped and played good football to go in level 3-2 to 2-5 at HT

Second half we continued to play well and lead after some good scores but a late Aghada surge gave them the spoils.

U13 football league:

Cobh 6-5 Glenville 1-9

We lead early by 7pts to 3pts but a physically stronger Cobhside scores three goals just before half-time to put a different completion on things.

We kept playing with great spirit but just weren't able to cope with Cobhs size and strength.

Again a good honest display from Glenville.

Intermediate Football Championship Round 1:

Mayfield 1-15

Glenville 2-9

A new look Glenville Intermediate Football team just fell short narrowly today in Round 1 of the championship. Glenville fell 5pts to nil down after 15 mins but slowly grew into the game and with an ever increasing potent forward line causing Mayfield problems hauled their back with two excellent Adam Murphy goals and probing runs from Dan Dennehy the primary reason and could have been more only for a few saves from the Mayfield goalkeeper.Glenville managed to turn a five point deficit to a four point lead early in the second half but like all emerging young teams a few mistakes cost us scores at vital stages. Mayfield regained the lead with 10 minutes to go and held on to a one point lead as the clock ticked over the 60 minutes. Two guilt edged goal chances went a begging as well as a few scorable point chances.

Mayfield a more seasoned outfit held their nerve and on the break got the insurance score to give them the spoils. After a very slow start Glenvilles overall performance was good

particularly with so many new young faces playing championship. The team showed alot of honest endeavour and It augers well later on in the year when championship resumes.

Well done players and management.

We'll go again !!

Intermediate football league:

Glenville 0.09

Ballydesmond 1.07

Glenville lost out by the narrowest of margins on Tuesday last away to Ballydesmond. This was a good game of football. Bally started the better and after 15 mins we were 1.04 to 2pts in arrears. Slowly glenville turned the screw with Eddie and Dylan doing excellant work and Aaron Ricken keeping a close eye on ex county player Donnacha O Connor. At halt time we were 1.04 to 4pts behind. The second half started with Glenville taking the game to Ballydesmond and reeled off a few early scores. Glenville were in top in most sectors and but for a few bad wides should have been in front. Ballydesmond were always dangerous on the other end and a couple of pointed frees kept them at arms reach. Glenville brought the score to a point game towards the end and had changes to win it. Eventually going down to a1 point loss. This was a very good game of football and with some very good performances across the team. This sets up our championship encounter with Mayfield on Sunday next. Well done lads on an honest and hardworking display.
