Glenville Football Club

A very busy week on the playing field with a lot of teams in action over the past few days. The Junior, U21, Minor, U15, U13, U12, U11, U10, U9 and U8 football teams were all in action in various league and challenge games. 

East Cork U21 B Football Championship
Glenville 3-14
Erins Own -1-4

Glenville qualified for the semi final of the East Cork U21 football championship with a comprehensive win over Erins Own played in Carrignavar on Saturday evening last. After an even opening 20 minutes, Glenville began to take control of this game from this point onwards with some excellent play and great scores taken. The goals coming from Colin Cronin, Sean Desmond and Aaron Collins. Glenville now take on Fr O Neills in the semi final this weekend.

Glenville 2-11
Aghada 2-13

Glenville began this game really strong and had opened up a 2-6 to 0-6 lead at the interval. Our goals coming from Owen Desmond and Diarmuid McCarthy. However, Aghada were the dominant team in the second half and turned the game around to take the points on offer after a good hours football. Glenville Football club also made a donation to the Kieran O Connor fund on the night. The cheque was presented to Kieran's brother on the night. Get well soon Kieran.

Fr O Neills 4-9

Our minors made the journey to Fr O Neills for round 3 of the Minor football league. After a good performance, the home side ran out worthy winners.

Kinsale 2-10

Glenville made the journey to Kinsale to take on the home side in the U15 football league. After a really entertaining game of football between two evenly matched teams, Kinsale won out by a single point.

Rebel Og Central U13 Premier 2 Football League
Glenville 6-8
St Michaels 5-6

Glenville ran out deservedly winners in round 2 of the U13 football league when they took on St Michaels at home on Saturday afternoon last. 
Glenville started exceptionally well in the first 15 minutes, clocking up 3-3 to no score. St Michaels  found their form and responded, scoring 3-4 without reply, to lead at half time by a point.
The second half was very evenly matched with the lead changing hands a number of times with Glenville down 2 points at one stage, St Michaels scoring a goal, Glenville up 2 points, St Michaels score a goal.
Our men dug deep and playing a good hand passing game secured two points and then a goal to see us see out the last four minutes with a five point advantage.

U12 Football Challenge
Glenville entertained Ballinora on Sunday evening last in a U12 challenge game. Glenville running out with a narrow win after a fine display throughout

U11 Football League

The U11s played Erins Own at home on Saturday Morning in there first league game. With 20 players getting game time, Glenville won 1 game and Erins own one game.

U10 Football League

The U10's played Midleton on there first league outing of the year at home on Saturday morning. Two games were played here and very competitive hours football for our boys. 

U9 Football League

Glenville played Kilara Og in the first game U9 league played at home on Saturday last. Two evenly matched games were played with every player getting lots of game time. 

U8 Football League

The U8's had 4 teams in Pairc ui Chaoimh last Saturday morning. All the lads did excellent on the day showcasing there football skills against other clubs. Well done lads. 

Imokilly Senior Footballers

Well done to Dylan McCarthy, Shane O Reilly and William Connolly who lined out with the Imokilly senior Footballer last week. Imoklilly were up against a very superior side in Duhallow and despite a good spirited second half performance, unfortunately lost out. Well done also to team selector Colman O Driscoll for the work he has put in over the past few months with this team. 

Glenville Football Club Development

The planned development for Glenville Football club was given a major boost in the past few weeks as the planning has now been approved. This is great news for the locality. We will have more updates on this over the next few weeks. 

Sciath na Scoil

Congratulations to Glenville national school teacher Mairead O Callaghan who has recently become the first female President of Cumann na mBunscol. Mairead has also been heavily involved with Glenville National School over the years and this is thoroughly deserved for all her efforts in promoting GAA. We wish Mairead every success in this position. 

Glenville Football club would like to send it deepest sympathies to the Finucane family on there recent bereavement.
