Castlemartyr GAA Notes

24 January, 2010

The glories of 2009 will be relived once again when the Gaels of Castlemartyr will gather in Garryvoe Hotel on Saturday night next the 30th of January. Tickets have been literally flying out the door, as it seems everyone wants to be there to celebrate the historic year. For far too long we attended dinner dances and listened to many secretaries of the East Cork Board ponder why were Castlemartyr not producing the goods on the hurling field, but finally Jamsey Kelleher will be in attendance along with the heroes who made it all possible.

It’s not too late to squeeze in and book your place at a table, but contact William Martin 086 1607029, or Charlotte Carroll 086 2225342 without delay. We mightn’t get the chance for another generation so don’t miss out.

2010 DRAWS

Although the medals from last year are not yet in the grasp of the lads, the draws for the football and hurling championships have taken place. In the football we are paired with Castlelyons which is a repeat of last year’s backdoor epic, when the Reds showed the mettle that stood the in good stead for the rest of the year when they came out on top after a dreadful start. This match will be played on the weekend of March 28th.

The defence of Jamesey, begins with Castlemartyr in a preliminary round against St Itas. If we lose this then it’s off to a backdoor match against Lisgoold.

The junior hurlers will operate out of Div 1 next year which will be made up of 8 teams and the footballers will be in a division with 11 teams , so plenty of games there.
