Carrigtwohill GAA Club Notes 25-03-19

RedFM Division 2 Hurling League Round 4 Carrig 0-15 (15) Mallow 1-16 (19) in Carrig on Sunday, March 24th at 2pm. Referee: Simon Stokes

A lacklustre first half ultimately did for Carrig in the latest round of the league. Carrig trailed 1-7 to 0-4 at the break with Tomás Hogan notching all four scores.

The game opened up in the second half and Carrig battled much better with the aid of the breeze. There were some fine individual scores from Jamie McCarthy, Seamus Roche, Jay Horgan, Brendan Twomey, Aaron Walsh Barry and Hogan again but Carrig needed a goal that never came. This is Carrig's first loss of the year after four games.

Panel: Shane Devlin, Brian Cashman, Colm O'Connell, Padraic Hogan, Ronan Power, Pat O'Sullivan, Conor O'Mahony, Aaron Walsh Barry, Jay Horgan, Brendan Twomey, Sean Rohan, Tomás Hogan, Seamus Roche, Jamie McCarthy, Daire Crotty. Subs used: Paul Barden, Aaron Gosnell, Niall Mulligan, David Rooney.

East Cork U21 C Football Championship Carrig 1-10 (13) Bride Rovers 2-12 (18) in Cobh on Friday, March 22nd at 8.15pm. Referee: John Kirby (Midleton)

Carrig battled well but ultimately just lost out at the death in the opening round of u21 football championship.

Carrig raced into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead after twelve minutes with great scores from Matthew Kidney, Ollie Baverstock and Adrian Browne (free). However, by the twentieth minute Bride Rovers were ahead thanks to a their second point and a converted penalty. From thereon out Carrig were dominant though and they led at the half thanks to a 1-1 haul from Liam Gosnell who buried a penalty and two more Browne frees; 1-6 to 1-2.

Despite having more of the ball Carrig couldn't put up the scores and a scoring burst after the restart had Bride Rovers ahead 2-5 to 1-7 with a lone Gosnell score in response. A Browne point from play had Carrig level but it was Bride Rovers who kicked on adding another seven points to Carrig's two (both Matthew Kidney).

The club would like to extend its gratitude to all the players for the hard work put in this year. Despite the result, these players have put in excellent commitment, playing in five challenge games and they made serious progress in a short space of time. We would also like to thank the management team of Peter Hogan, Eoghan O'Mahony, Clive Cremen and JJ Wall for their efforts this year.

Scorers: L. Gosnell 1-2 (1-0pen), A. Browne 0-4 (0-3f), M. Kidney 0-3, O. Baverstock 0-1.
