HARTY CUP HEROES RETURN TO PÁIRC UÍ CHINNÉIDE

A warm reception was had last Tuesday evening as the the Killeagh-Itas players who were part of the Midleton CBS Harty Winning team made a special appearance in the club house with a special visitor, the Dr. Harty Cup making its first showing for over 13 years.

It was a special evening for the club, especially as the Midleton side were led by Killeagh captain Dylan Hogan along with his team mates Olan Broderick, Ritchie Landers, Padraig Leahy & Ryan McCarthy. It was great to have such a good turnout especially when it was at such short notice on the day. The under 12’s were just finished training when the lads arrived, so it was great for the younger members of the club realise the importance of Saturday’s victory. A lot of pictures and autographs were taken afterwards with the lads.

But it is back to the playing fields next Saturday March 2nd as Midleton CBS move into the Masita All Ireland Post Primary Schools Quarter Final as they will face Coláiste Eoin of Stillorgan, Dublin who were beaten by St. Kieran’s of Kilkenny 1-17 to 2-7 on Sunday afternoon. Venue & Time TBC. Log onto our social media for latest information this weekend on the game.

By Tricia Treacy

St. Marys High School. Congratulations to Niamh O’Connor, Anna Brenner, Suzanne Dignam and Sarah Kent who all played their part winning the Junior (under 16 1/2) B All Ireland Semi Final on Saturday last. The Game was played in ideal conditions against Dominicans a school from Dublin. All the Killeagh girls played out of their skins and contributed greatly to this great win. Roll on the final!

Under 12s The under 12 squad are continuing their training regime with fitness training sessions on every Wednesday 6.45 – 7.45 and Camogie sessions on in the GAA hall each Saturday morning 12noon – 1 pm. Large numbers are enjoying their indoor sessions. With the continuing fine weather all sessions will shortly be held outdoors.

Cork Seniors. Chloe, Hannah, Laura and Stefanie travelled with Cork to Galway on Sunday last to play their final game of the league campaign. The game ended in a draw which means Cork will now play Kilkenny in the League semi final to be played on March 10th.

Aras an Uachtarain On Tuesday the 19th February President Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabina honoured the winning All Ireland winning Senior and Intermediate teams. The Cork teams, their families, mentors and officials were welcomed to the Áras for the reception. Our players Stefanie, Laura, Chloe, Niamh and Hannah all represented Cork and their club Killeagh. It was a fantastic occasion and was enjoyed by everyone. The President’s speech was a wonderful tribute to these “athletes” and he paid tribute to their dedication and commitment, their teamwork and unity which he said is “paramount in everyday lives”. The President also spoke about the recent celebrations for International Women’s Day and where at Áras an Uachtaráin, both he and Sabina are delighted to support the ‘20x20 IF YOU CANT SEE IT, YOU CANT BE IT’ initiative. It’s a movement which he said will shift cultural perception of women’s sport by committing to increase media coverage of women in sport by 20% because if she can’t see it, she can’t be it.
