Round 2

Glenville1.10

Mayfield 1.09

Glenville collected the points on offer in this latest round of the intermediate football league played in Mayfield last Sunday morning. Glenville playing with the wind from the off shaded matters but found it hard to get on the scoreboard so was the severity of the wind and rain early on. Gradually the weather improved and so did the football as Glenville knocked over good points from Shane O Regan, and Dilan O'Donovan. Mayfield were always a treat and kept the scoreboard ticking over from their impressive centre forward. Aaron Ricken kicked a great 45 and when Dan Dennehy got through for a goal

shortly after Glenville were going well. Mayfield response was immediate and 2 more pointed frees brought the half time score to Glenville 1.03

Mayfield 0.04.

Facing against the very strong wind we knew we would be up against it. But right from the throw in Dylan McCartyand Eddie Delahunt led the charge and we played some great football and got through for some well taken points. In this half well taken scores from Dan (2) Dilan (3) and Shane O Regan (2) brought our tally to 1.10 while Mayfield kicked 5 points of their own. Right at the death Mayfield were awarded a dubious penalty which they converted. There was still one last play which Mayfield with a kickout but a powerful Intercept from Dan Dennehy allowed Glenville the win by the narrowest of margains and a good performance in difficult conditions from the lads.

Junior football:

Glenville 2-4 Carrigtwohill 0-10 Junior 2football league

After being outplayed in the opening half Glenville made a fantastic comeback to secure a draw with a late goal. Glenville trailed 0-8 to 0-3 at HT and went further behind when Carrigtwohill started strongly in the second half. Glenville facing into a strong breeze kept it very tight and competitive and bit by bit chipped away at the lead. A cool finish from young Seanie Desmond gave us a chance and when full back billowed the net with a few minutes left we found ourselves ahead. Carrigtwohill scored the equaliser immediately to earn a share of the spoils.

U14:

Well done to Glenville U14s who won their challenge game against Clyda Rovers today in Mourneabbey. Despite some confusion about what code we were playing (Clyda turned up for a hurling match and we turned up for a football game), Clyda were very gracious and went ahead with the football match despite missing some of their key footballers.

Played in atrocious weather conditions with a strong gale and a blizzard-like hailstone shower in the first half, Glenville settled well with some great personal performances as well as good passing and teamwork. Playing into a strong gale, Glenville used their passing game to score some well constructed goals and the scoring of goals over points was the key difference between the teams.

With a good winning margin at half-time and the advantage of the strong gale, Glenville went on to build on their advantage, with well struck shots aimed at scoring points ending up in the top corner of the net and we ran out comfortable winners

Thank you to the players who playedso well in miserable conditions and to the parents who supported the boys today. Definitely a hot chocolate on the way home day!
