CHAIRMAN’S CHRISTMAS ADDRESS - Colman Motherway

On behalf of the officers and committee of Killeagh GAA Club, I would like to wish you all a restful, relaxing and happy Christmas, and wish everyone the very best for the year that lies ahead of us. I would like to thank you all sincerely for your support for our club to date and ask that you continue to support us in 2019.

I have recently become chairperson of our club, a role which I am honoured to fill, following in the footsteps of great people, many of whom are still heavily involved in our club. I hope to be able to continue the excellent work done to date and build on this to make, as our motto above states, all of us, and ultimately, our club, the best that we can be, both on and off the pitch. I also want to continue to work to make our club inclusive for all in our community, regardless of your name, age, gender, sporting ability, or any other ‘label’ you may be given. This is a club for all – please encourage new people to get involved in our club; we will welcome them!

To make our club the best that it can be requires the goodwill and commitment of many people, so we are asking each one of you for your support in 2019 and beyond. Your support can come in many forms, including:

1. supporting our teams – football and hurling, juvenile and adult, in their matches in Killeagh and beyond;

2. giving your time to volunteer, for example to help with team preparation, supervising at training or Cúl camp, providing catering assistance, or helping with match-day stewarding in Páirc Uí Chinnéide;

3. joining a committee, for example our Juvenile committee, our Healthy Clubs Project, our ‘Lock Up’ team;

4. your financial contributions, which are many – if you buy a weekly or yearly Lotto ticket, enter the Cork Clubs Draw, buy a ticket for the National Club Draw (currently for sale around our community) or contribute to any other regular or once-off fundraisers we run (many thanks to all who have contributed generously to our ‘SPONSOR A SECTION’ fence appeal, which will ensure safe fencing around our pitches).

Should you have any questions, ideas or wish to get more involved, please give me a call at any time.

For now, enjoy the next few days agus go n-éirí go geal libh go léir sa bhliain seo chugainn.

Le meas mór,

Colman Motherway

HEALTHY CLUBS PROJECT KILLEAGH GAA - INCH ROVERS LADIES FOOTBALL - KILLEAGH CAMOGIE - KILLEAGH-ITA'S JUVENILE GAA

On St. Stephens Day, in conjunction with the Annual Poc Fada from Mount Uniacke to Killeagh, we are organising a walk en route ahead of the competitors. Please gather in Mount Uniacke at 11am with a Hi-Viz vest.

For those looking for a challenge, meet outside the Old Thatch at 10.30am & you can walk both ways.

We continue our Healthy Clubs Project Monthly Walks throughout 2019 and Number 36 is on January 13th, two routes around Ladysbridge. More details upcoming here soon.....

The "Ireland Lights Up" Operation Transformation nationwide project restarts in Killeagh GAA Grounds this January. The event for 2019 will take place on Thursdays evenings. Therefore, the opening event will take place on Thursday January 17th at 7.00 p.m. As you will know by now, Operation Transformation begins its 12th season on RTÉ television in the New Year. GAA clubs are already becoming hubs for health through the Healthy Clubs Project.

The floodlights will be turned on from 7pm to 9pm so come along at any time in that two-hour window and walk and/or run as much as you feel able to do, and perhaps have time to talk with friends and neighbours as well. This will run until March 7th as we host our Killeagh 4 Mile Road Race on Sunday 10th March. A perfect way to practice ahead of the race whether you’re a walker or a runner.

We will have time for a cuppa once the walking is done. We would love to see as many people as possible join us, so get up from the table/couch and get yourself down to Páirc Uí Chinnéide!

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY THIS WEEK!!!

We have two great annual social events taking place over the Christmas Period.

Firstly, to work off some of the Turkey & Ham after Christmas Day, Our Annual Poc Fada takes place on St. Stephens Day, 26th of December. It starts in Mount Uniacke with Juveniles starting at 11:30am while the minors/adult teams throwing-in at 12pm. Everyone participating to be started en route by 2pm the very latest or else you are not in the competition. Teams of 3, €5 per child, €10 per adult.

This year, all proceeds are in aid of Marymount Hospice. It is open to all, including non-hurlers and long-retired hurlers (maybe we might see some new golfers out too))!! Join us on the 26th of December for a fun day out! There are plenty of prizes for the various categories. Any U14 teams must have an adult travel with them en route to Killeagh. Please bring your own Hurleys & Sliotars and a Hi-Viz (if possible).

Secondly, for some brain-teasing, The Table Quiz in aid of Killeagh-Itas Juvenile Club will take place on Friday 28th of December at the Old Thatch in Killeagh at 9.15pm. Tables of 4 cost €40. There will be refreshments, a raffle and some fun on the night. Time to get knowledge around the club for questions that may appear on the night (eg: Name the new County Board Runaí).

We hope to see a big crowd on the night for our final event of 2018 to raise funds for equipment for our underage teams next year.

GREETINGS:

On behalf of all at Killeagh GAA, we wish you (the reader) and yours a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. Hopefully we will see you over the Christmas period at our club events that are taking place in the parish.
