SEASON ALMOST DONE!

It’s AGM season for GAA clubs all over Ireland – ours is on Monday 19th November at 7.30 p.m. - and matches are almost all complete. Our main items of interest to report on are our second week of Friday Night Lights and our Recipes For Success workshop in Pobalscoil on Saturday last.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS WEEK 2 REPORT

We had Week 2 of our inaugural Sean Lavery Memorial Football Tournament, aka “Friday Night Lights” in Killeagh on Friday evening last (November 16th) for our U16 and minor footballers, on a perfect evening for football. Again, this week, fitness was a big factor, as some teams ran out of gas a little in Games 2 and 3. In Game One, with only goals allowed, Greens beat Reds by 6 goals to 2 and Blues beat Yellows by 8 goals to 2. In Game Two, each score, over or under the bar, was worth two points, and the Reds got their first win, beating the Yellows by 10-8 (bonus point for Yellows as they lost by 3 points or less), while the Blues beat the Greens by 14-8. Game Three had regular scoring rules, and saw the Blues get their third win of the evening, beating the Reds by 2-5 to 0-3. The Reds were depleted due to an ankle injury to their captain Adrian Galvin, who unfortunately looks to be ruled out of action for the remainder of the tournament. Meanwhile, the Yellows beat the Greens by 7-2 to 2-3 in a high scoring game. So after Night 2, this is what the table looks like, with each team still in contention to be in the top 2 on the third night, thereby qualifying for the A Final:

TEAM Played Won Drew Lost Bonus Points Scores For Scores Conceded Total Points Position

Blues 6 4 0 2 0 84 60 8 1

Greens 6 4 0 2 0 91 73 8 2

Yellows 6 3 0 3 1 70 76 7 3

Reds 6 1 0 5 2 41 77 4 4

SPONSOR A SECTION – GREAT RESPONSE TO DATE – MORE PLEDGES NEEDED

Our SPONSOR A SECTION fundraising drive has been a great success so far, with many pledges and donations of €100 rolling in week by week, meaning our fence is likely to be installed in the next few months. We are asking all families who use Páirc Uí Chinnéide to get behind this capital investment and make our facilities better and safer for future generations of players and users. Remember, if you can give €100, we will have your name engraved on a nameplate which will be permanently attached to your section of fence as a ‘Thank You’ and recognition of your support. We would like to thank all those who have contributed so far towards this initiative and ask all other families / users of our facilities to please contact Padraig McGrath on 087-8575678 or any club committee member to pledge your support. Thank you!

LOTTO UPDATE The Lotto jackpot continues to rise. Last week’s draw, held on Tuesday November 13th, was for a jackpot of €9,800 and the numbers drawn, 1, 10, 22 and 28 were not matched by any of our players. €30 winners drawn were Patricia McCarthy, Declan Galvin and Redmond Russell, while Zoe Goggin won a

€30 Glenbower Beauty voucher. So we roll over to the magical five figure sum of €10,000 for the coming week, November 20th. Yes please??? If you’re not in …

GOLF SOCIETY UPDATE Our Golf Society is also winding down for 2018, but not quite finished yet. There is a Tuesday outing to Gold Coast, Dungarvan on Tuesday November 27th, while the Christmas Golf Scramble on Saturday December 1st. As usual, time sheets for both are with Ray on 087-2330054.

HEALTHY CLUBS PROJECT KILLEAGH GAA - INCH ROVERS LADIES FOOTBALL - KILLEAGH CAMOGIE - KILLEAGH-ITA'S JUVENILE GAA

RECIPES FOR SUCCESS A GREAT SUCCESS!

One of the most enlightening and successful elements of the GAA’s Healthy Clubs Project initiatives is the partnership with St. Angela’s College in Sligo (where Home Economics teachers, including Killeagh’s Cáit Delaney, are educated), which has produced the innovative “Recipes For Success” cookbook for athletes, a brilliant resource for any young player. As part of this initiative, all Healthy Clubs are invited to offer the Recipes For Success practical cooking workshop for teenagers, and we ran this workshop for the third year in a row on Saturday last, November 17th. Once again, we were delighted to have the expertise of Laura Corkery, Home Economics teacher in Pobalscoil na Tríonóide, Youghal, who gave up her time on Saturday morning who volunteered to impart her knowledge and skills to nineteen enthusiastic young people – male and female. Over the course of two hours, all participants got an opportunity to make fruit smoothies, their own home-made muesli and a beautiful chicken and vegetable fajita. All present really enjoyed the opportunity and learned much about what constitutes a healthy diet and how to go about creating one. Many thanks to Laura for her work before, during and after the workshop, and to all those who came along. We hope to repeat the workshop again in 2019.

FINALLY A new date for your diary – Killeagh-Ita's Juvenile GAA AGM on Monday November 26th at 7.30 p.m. Don’t stay away and complain – come on in and have your say. This is your club! We are especially looking for parents of current or future players to come along. Let’s help each other to make our club better for everyone - on and off the field. See you there?
