Castlelyons GAA Notes week ended 21.10.18.

Castlelyons GAA Lotto now €13,000

Niall O Leary receives All Star Under 21 Hurling Award.

Congratulations to Niall O Leary who received an U21 All Star Hurling Award at corner back on this year’s team. Niall had a mighty year with both club, Division and the Rebels. He adds this award to his two senior county medals with Imokilly and in both those finals he was outstanding in the centre back position. He received his awards on last Friday night at a special ceremony in Dublin.

Of course, Colm Spillane has already received a senior All Star nomination for his displays with Cork this year. I believe these awards will be announced on November 3rd, so we wish him well. It is a fact though that the All-Ireland finalists dominate these awards, so Colm will have stiff opposition. Meanwhile Colm Barry and Tom Carroll together with the two county lads just mentioned will all receive senior county medals shortly as they were members of the winning Imokilly team. Well done to boys.

St Colman’s open Harty campaign with a win.

St Colman’s opened their Harty Cup campaign last week with a facile victory over Nenagh CBS. Featuring a blend of strong players from the local clubs they look good. Castlelyons had two on the team with J Kearney and D Morrison and both L Doocey and P Roche got game time. So well done lads.

The bar management committee have done a very good job and members and friends are asked to support it. It is one of the oldest Centres in the area it is the focal point of all social activity they will have a bit of craic over the winter. Your support is appreciated.

Congratulations to Fermoy on regaining Senior Status.

Well done to Fermoy on Sunday on a marvellous win over hot favourites St Michael’s in the premier intermediate county football final last Sunday. Fermoy have had many successes along the way and this team is a result of great work by many people as it was built on hard graft at juvenile and various levels up along. They had disappointment only a few years ago in defeat in a final but what a comeback. A town of a great footballing tradition and, indeed, doing very well in hurling, now back in the senior ranks after an absence of over 50 years. As they say in the song last Sunday was a bright golden hour.
