the death has occurred of Sean BUTLER Cobh

17 October, 2018

The Gaa community of Cobh is in mourning today as we've lost one of our all time legendary figures. Seánie Butler first played junior for Cobh in the fifties, winning a county hurling title in 1959. He continued to play with and train teams up to the noughties. In fact he played and scored two points in an intermediate hurling game in 1994. The word legend probably doesn't do Seánie justice. He oversaw Cobh's time as the dominant juvenile club in East Cork, winning the U16 premier grade titles in hurling and football on a number of occassions in the late 70s and into the early 80s. He coached our Intermediate hurling team in the 1990s and went on to coach another successful minor team after this. Seánie will never be replaced and will always be remembered at Cobh Gaa. We extend our sympathies to the Butler family on their sad loss. Ní bheidh a leithéid arís annp
