Ulster Bank Co Premier 2 Minor Hurling League – Final
Castlelyons 1-17 Shandrum 0-11
Castlelyons ended their season in style when in Mourne Abbey on Tuesday night last they accounted for Shandrum in a convincing manner to take the Ulster Bank Co Premier 2 Minor Hurling League title.
Playing the most forceful hurling from the off Castlelyons showed that they were well up for this game and after Michael Spillane and Jamie Coughlan exchanged early points they began to move up a gear. Their half back trio of Brian Carroll, Colm Spillane and Cian O’Leary, who were also assisted by Colm Barry who was rock solid at full-back, took control and with the hard working Darran Tobin and Eoin Maye in midfield showing a high work-rate their forward sextet were to prosper. Here Aidan O’Sullivan and Michael Spillane were to score some superb points while Robbie Feeney, Ronan Fenton and Alan O’Regan also had their moments of excellence. Four points from Spillane, three frees, and one from Tobin saw them lead 0-06 to 0-01 at the end of the opening quarter and with Tobin, Maye and Spillane adding further points they increased their advantage by the 20th minute. Shandrum were under pressure at this stage but they did recover when after an exchange of points between Jerry Lane (free) and Aidan O’Sullivan they reduced the deficit with a brace of points from Jamie Coughlan but their opponents were alive to the danger and with a wonderful point from Ronan Fenton they went in at the break leading 0-11 to 0-04.
On the resumption any hopes that Shandrum had of making an early comeback were quickly put aside as it was the “East Cork” who maintained their composure and with two points from Aidan O’Sullivan and one apiece from Robbie Feeney, Alan O’Regan and Brian Carroll they strengthened their position. On seeing the game slipping away from them Shandrum refused to throw in the towel and with battling displays from Billy Naughton, Kevin O’Connor, Jerry Lane and Jamie Coughlan they tried their utmost to get back into contention and were denied of a goal when a rasping shot from Coughlan was excellently saved by the Castlelyons ‘keeper Shane O’Sullivan. Their persistence was rewarded when after an exchange of points between O’Connor and Ronan Fenton they reduced the margin with points from Naughton and Coughlan. However their comeback was halted when in the 47th Robbie Feeney broke through for the only goal of the game after some fine work by O’Sullivan and Fenton. This score in effect sealed victory for Castlelyons and although the “Avondhu” side hit back with some neat points from Coughlan and Lane their was to be no denying the winners as they made up for their disappointment of their championship defeat by their opponents and also to deny them the double to run out comfortable winners 1-17 to 0-11.
After the game the cup was presented to the winning captain, Aidan O’Sullivan by Jim Healy, Runai, Cork Co Minor Board much to the delight of his tem-mates and supporters.

Ulster Bank Co Minor “C” (12 a-side) Football Championship – Final
Adrigole 4-11 Uibh Laoire 4-07
A late goal by Thomas Joe O’Sullivan followed by a point from Kevin Goggin enabled Adrigole to see off the strong challenge of Uibh Laoire in this rip-roaring Ulster Bank Co Minor “C” (12 a-side) Football Championship Final which was played in Aughaville on Sunday afternoon last.
Uibh Laoire got off to the better start and aided by points from Denis O’Leary and David Hourihan they took an early lead. Adrigole fought back with some fine points from Kevin Goggin and although Cathal Vaughan maintained Uibh Laoire’s lead the Beara side increased their efforts and with a brace of goals from Liam Harrington and points from Goggin and Thomas Joe O’Sullivan they established a commanding lead. However Uibh Laoire fought back with a goal from Denis O’Leary and a point from Vaughan to see them go in at the break trailing 1-05 to 2-05.
On the resumption Adrigole with solid displays from Conor O’Sullivan in goal, Con O’Shea, Michael O’Neill, Liam Harrington, Cian O’Neill, Sean O’Shea, Kevin Goggin and Thomas Joe O’Sullivan upped a gear and strengthened their position with an early goal from Sean O’Shea. Points from O’Shea and Harrington consolidated their advantage and it now looked as if Uibh Laoire were in trouble. To their credit they rose to the challenge and with John McSweeney, Cal McCarthy, Barry Murphy, Eamon Creedon, Denis O’Leary, Cathal Vaughan and David Hourihan leading by example they mounted a comeback. Spectacular goals from Daniel O’Riordan and Denis O’Leary brought them to within two points and although Harrington increased Adrigole’s margin another cracking goal from Barry Murphy, after some fine work by Cal McCarthy saw the sides on level terms as the game was entering its final phase. As excitement was now reaching fever pitch and definitely warmed up what was a bitterly cold afternoon Adrigole found another gear when Thomas Joe O’Sullivan broke through for a goal and in the last kick of the game Kevin Goggin sealed victory when he was on hand to kick over a superb point to see his side take the title on the final scoreline of 4-11 to 4-07.

The Ulster Bank Co Minor Leagues made further progress over the weekend when Midleton qualified for the final of the Co Premier 1 Minor hurling League when they had a hard earned victory over Erins Own which was played in Youghal on Saturday. In what a closely fought opening half Erins Own led by the promptings of Cormac Dooley, Chris Geary, Paul Ryan, Jack Sheehan, Mark Collins and Kieran Moynihan went in at the break leading by the bare minimum 0-06 to 0-05 after some well executed points from Collins, Andrew Power and Diarmuid Ryng while Paul Haughney, Conor Lehane and Tommy Wallace got their names on the scoreboard for their opponents. Aided by a goal from Haughney at the three-quarter stage they cemented their position and although Moynihan replied with a similar score for Erins Own there was to be no stopping the winners who will now meet Na Piarsaigh in the final.
In the Ulster Bank Co Premier 2 Minor Football League Carberry Rngs proved too strong for Bantry Blues in their Qtr/Final game which was played in Rosscarbery on Sunday.
