Lisgoold News

14 December, 2009

A well attended AGM of Lisgoold GAA Club at the Community Centre last
Wednesday saw continued progress on the field celebrated , and a
significant commitment to further off field development progressed .
These exciting developments are sure to keep the incoming Committee
working hard throughout the Christmas and into the New Year .

A number of matters saw healthy debate late into the evening , with
competition for Officer Positions and for Mangers of Teams hotly and
competitively contested . Best wishes in their quest next year to bring
silverware to the Club next year is extended to respective managers Mike
Woods ( Junior A Hurling) Maurice O'Connell ( Junior B Hurling) Tim
Mulcahy ( Junior A Football) and Killian O'Shea ( Junior B Football) ,
as well as the various Under 21 and Minor Managers elected on the
evening .

Officers elected for the 2010 year were;
President Dan Joe McCarthy
Chairman John Joe O'Regan
Vice Chairman Jim Geary
Secretary Michael Beirne
Treasurer Patrick O'Mahony
P R O - Brendan Healy
Cultural Officer - Noel Connery

Incoming President Dan Joe McCarthy addressed the gathering in a very
emotional speech , stating that it was a tremendous honour for him to be
elected to the proud and esteemed position of Club President, but that
it was a bittersweet moment in that he was replacing the late and much
loved former President Bob O'Sullivan RIP , whose memory was again feted
at the AGM he so adorned throughout the years.

Junior Hurling League Final
Lios gCul 0.07 Sarsfields 2.17

On the playing field , the Adult season , year and indeed decade came to
a halt around 9 pm last Friday under the bright glow of the lights at
Riverstown , where the League Final decider was played out between
Lisgoold and Sars. A repeat of the Championship Semi Final in high
summer , this game was never likely to rise to those great heights , but
an entertaining encounter was , nonetheless , on offer for those who
decided to forego the Christmas shopping in favour of live sport.

Despite keeping pace with the home side for the first half , after which
we retired at 0.06 apiece , the second half of this encounter was all
one way traffic , as Sars upped the ante considerably and ran home easy
victors . The first half was a ding dong battle , with John Cronin and
Finbarr Brosnan carrying the fight to our hosts . Barry Stack and Dave
Barry were solid and dependable at the rear , and this gave cause for
hope entering the second half. There , however , was where our challenge
ended , as our fight fizzed out quickly , despite the best efforts of
Ciaran Cronin . A solitary point , from substitute Jamie Woods , in
injury time at the conclusion , was scant reward for a well defeated
side by the conclusion .

County Minor League Quarter Final
Lios gCul 1.06 Kilshannig 1.12

We had little to warm us on the long journey to Kilshannig either on
Sunday afternoon where our hosts outplayed us from first whistle to last
in the County Minor League Quarter Final . A freezing afternoon gave us
little opportunity to clap our hands to ward off the impending frostbite
, and the action on the field was just as barren . Decent performances
from Matthew Conroy , John Cashman and Conor Walsh gave glimpses of hope
, but , overall , the stronger , more mobile and determined Kilshannig
side deserved their place in the penultimate stage of the competition .

Juvenile Table Quiz

Last Sunday week, saw the extremely active juvenile club holding what
turned out to be a very successful table quiz in the thatch bar, where over
30 teams competed in three sections. Adults, Juvenile [secondary schools]
and children [primary schools]. Great fun was had and the committee would
like to thank all who helped out with the quiz and those who sponsored
prizes for the raffle and of course the thatch bar for hosting the event.
€700 was raised which went to the lighting and nets for the ball alley. A
great night was had by all. Also we had the honour of a visit from some
members of the Cork senior ladies football team who were raising money for
a team holiday, by raffling a signed jersey.

From all at CLCG Lios gCul , we'd like to take this opportunity to wish
all our players , supporters , fellow Gaels and friends of our Club the
compliments of the season. Beannachtai na Nollaig.
