Lisgoold News

10 December, 2009

It was a quiet enough weekend for the club with a constant downpour being
the highlight that savaged the whole weekend, as our minor football team
chances of landing any sliverwear were washed away in rain sodden
inchigella pitch. Our junior squad are playing their last game for this
decade, in terms of the JHL Division 2 league final against Sarsfields.
Which is on this Friday night, we wish the lads the very best for this
encounter and please support. Also note the minor hurlers have their minor
county league game against Kilshannig to play, which is suppose to be on
this weekend, please check locally as at time of writing venue and time was
not decided.

Minor County C Football League Semi-Final

Lisgoold 0-8 (8)

Iveleary 4-7 (19)

It was a bitter pill to swallow for our boys as they crashed out of this
competition in disappointing fashion; we lost the toss for the pitch and
made the long trek all the way down to Inchigeela. But to be honest the
weather and the pitch, in which it the whole game was played in was more
suitable for water polo than Gaelic football. Both teams to be fair, tired
their best to play football but it was hard with such heavy-foot
conditions, however Iveleary got off to a flyer as they snatched the first
two scores of the game. John Cronin replied in the 13th minute as Lisgoold
got their first score of the game but Iveleary replied with two more points
and with 6 minutes to go got the breakthrough score when they squeezed in
for a goal. This was a body blow but at 1-6 to 0-2 down it wasn’t too bad,
and a comeback was possible.

The comeback seemed to be on when John Cronin kicked Lisgoold to being four
points behind, but that was as close as they came. The home side broke away
with 12 minutes to go with our lads losing the ball around their 13 yard
line and scoring the killer goal. This finished the game as a contest and
the game peered out with Iveleary adding two more goals, and Lisgoold
adding their tally to eight. It was a disappointing outcome, but it was a
great year for the lads who are still active next week against Kilshannig.
John Cashman, John McCarthy and Rob Smart were the pick of the Lisgoold
gang who must dry themselves down and get ready for next week. One must
also give credit to the young Réiteoir Dave Murnane from Macroom, who was
brave enough (and ultimately mad enough) to go out in horrendous conditions
to referee the match, and did a fine job.

Lisgoold GAA Club now produced their 2010 calendar, which is flying off the
shelves at the moment at the cost of €10. If interested in getting a
calendar, you may get one at any of the local pubs, woods shop, or if there
is none there (which is a strong possibility) you may contact either Joe
Ryan (087 8336482) or Jerry Ryan (087 9810753) who will help you to get
