Senior Hurlers rewarded for a great league campaign

We narrowly failed to win our first league title last month when Sarsfields beat us by 3-13 to 2-14 in the Red FM League Final, but, given where our senior team have come from, 2017 can be marked as a very successful year for our senior hurlers. Last week, in one of her first official duties as Cathaoirleach, Coiste Chontae Chorcaí, Tracey Kennedy had the honour of presenting a cheque to her fellow club member, All-Ireland winning captain of 1999 Mark Landers, who these days has the onerous task of ‘bainisteoir’ to keep him busy. Well done to Mark and his hugely dedicated team of mentors and volunteers, and to the many players who contributed to the league success this year. Hopefully 2018 will bring further success for our senior hurlers.

Lotto Update

We had no winner of the €6200 jackpot for our last draw on Tuesday December 12th. Numbers drawn were 10, 15, 17, 29. Four consolation prizes of €30 each were won by Aoife Scully, Kevin Flavin, Mary Daly and Colm Crowley. This week the jackpot will be €6400 - our final draw before Christmas! Tickets are just €2 - play in local shops, with GAA sellers, or online at where three tickets for €5 gives you a 17% discount! If you’re not in …...

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY We have two great social events coming up in Christmas week, where you get a chance to meet neighbours and returning or new friends home for the holidays. One will exercise your physical health, the other will exercise your ‘grey matter’ health. They are:

1. Our Annual Poc Fada takes place on St. Stephen’s Day, Tuesday December 26th. We throw in the ball(s) on Main Street, Mount Uniacke from 11.30 a.m. on, and teams of 3 make their way at their own pace downhill towards Killeagh. There are many categories - senior, U18, U14, family, veteran and ladies. The Poc Fada is always a fantastic day out, and is open to everyone. However, U14s do need an adult to accompany them on the route. There is a small charge, with all funds raised being given directly to charity.

2. Killeagh-Ita's Juvenile GAA Annual Fundraising Quiz takes place in The Old Thatch, Thursday December 28th at 8.30 p.m. Tables of 4 cost €40, there will be refreshments and a raffle on the night also. Book your table with Olivia 087-4111549 or Ursula 087-6292646. Two more questions that WILL be included are: Which Irish president died in office? and Which two US cities did architect Dermot Bannon visit for his recent RTE programmes?

Two Healthy Clubs Post-Christmas Walks to work off the turkey - do one or both!

(a) Poc Fada Route Walk: Mount Uniacke-Killeagh (one way or return) Tuesday December 26th. Meet in Mount Uniacke at 11.30.

(b) Glenbower Fundraising Walk / Run (funds towards replacing damaged bridge) Wednesday December 27th. Meet in wood at 12.00 noon.

Both walks open to all in our community and beyond.
