East Cork JFL Final Glenbower Rovers 2-11 Cloyne 3-10

We travelled to Cloyne on Saturday afternoon to take on the locals in the Division One Football League

Final. On a day which was dull and overcast and the conditions were not ideal for football we were slow out of the blocks and trailed by 1-2 before Sean Long got us on the score board, we still weren't able to take our chances and went in at half time 1-5 to 0-3 behind. It took a very fortunate penalty for Cloyne which they converted to get us going and we thundered back into to the game with the introduction of John O Connor having a good impact and with Sean Long bagging a goal it made for a very exciting finale in which both sides had chances to win it before it ended level in ordinary time. Cloyne made the most of their chances in extra time and we ended up on the wrong side of a 2-12 to 1-13 scoreline. This was a disappointing end to the football season, but credit most go to all the lads as each of them put in a great effort over the 80+ minutes, but it wasn't to be our day.

Team B. Delaney, M. Fitzgerald, A. Keniry, A. Morrison, S. Murphy, C. Fogarty, J. Dullea, K. Lane, G. Collins, C. O'Brien, B. McCarthy, C. Deane, O'Neill, S. Long, M. Murphy. Subs S. Scully, J. O'Connor, D. Mathews, E. Fitzgibbon, J. O'Rourke, E. Byrne, D. O'Keeffe, D. Motherway.

As this was the final game of the season I would like to thank all the players that made themselves available to football for the club this year. While we ended up without silverware this year, reaching the finals of the two competitions we played in should not be overlooked.

Juvenile News:

Under 10 Parish Leagues

The under 10 Parish Leagues commenced on Tuesday 26th September at Pairc Ui Chinneide. All the boys born in the years 2007, 2008 and 2009 competed at hurling and football each Tuesday night. Three weeks of league games were played with the top two teams competing in the A final and the next two teams in the shield final. The games were fiercely competitive with the night of the finals twice postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

The boys eventually played on the 24th October on a rain soaked night where the White Team captained by Oran Cunningham won the A hurling final and the Green Team captained by Aidan McNamee were victorious in the A football final. Jack Coleman captained the Green team to win the shield hurling final and Thomas Kelly captained the Red team to take the football shield.

Well done to the hard-working managers of each of the teams, Ger Geary, Sean Spillane, Brinsley McDonnell and Dara Motherway.

Finally, many thanks to Brookes SuperValu for their continued support.

Killeagh U7’s 2017

Killeagh U7’s commenced training in mid-February and we finished up 24th October. We trained at Inch Astro Turf, Killeagh Hall and Killeagh GAA pitch. There were 4 U7 Rebel Og blitzes and matches against Kiltha Og, Fr. O' Neill's, Ardmore and Abbeyside twice. In all those games we won most of the games losing only a handful by small margins.

We finished the year by having a fun day at the Glen Resource Centre; Cork and great fun was had by all. All players trained hard in hurling & football throughout the year and improved considerably as the year progressed. The players involved are Charlie Lawton, Mike Murphy, Cathal Murphy, Eoghan Murphy, Bruce Whelan, Luke Fitzgerald, Ben Courtney, Oscar Power, Liam Lynch, Oisin Conlon, Jay Geary, Aron Murphy, Eolann Deane, Harry Fitzgerald, Christopher O’ Sullivan, Oran Hyde and Oscar Fitzgerald. Coach Andrew Murphy. Enjoy the break and here’s to 2018 as U8’s!!
