JUVENILE NOTES

Fe 9 Hurling and Football

Killeagh under 9's have has a busy few weeks. The league recently reconvened after a few weeks break. Killeagh Under 9's are in the 'two team' group. Killeagh play two games simultaneously and the results of the games are combined to see who are the winners on the day. Killeagh played 7 hurling and 7 football league fixtures before thesummer break. The results of these fixtures determined which group Killeagh would be in for the final phase of the league. Due to the results to date (Hurling - Won 5, Drew 2, Football - Won 6, Lost 1) we are playing in Section 1A of the Hurling and Section 1B of the Football. The other teams in Section 1A of the hurling are Watergrasshill, Glen Rovers & Carrigtohill. The other teams in Section1B of the Football are Ballygarvan, Bandon and Na Piarsaigh. Our first match back after the summer break saw us visit Watergrasshill on 26th August. Killeagh started very well in one of the games and were very dominant around midfield. Good combination play and sharp shooting saw Killeagh well ahead at half time. The pattern continued in the second half and our defence held firm also to record a comfortable win. The second match was a much closer contest. Killeagh actually trailed at the break but stuck at it resolutely to emerge a few points up at the final whistle. Overall, it was a great morning's hurling resulting in two wins. Ballygarvan visited Pairc Ui Chinneide on 31st August. Killeagh got off to a slow start in the first game. Ballygarvan had some good forwards and it took us time to get to grips with them. Killeagh trailed by three goals at the interval. A couple of quick early points in the second half settled us and we slowly but surely reeled them in. A great last minute goal sealed the win. In the other match Killeagh were the much slicker outfit. Some great defending and distribution of the ball from the back was matched by great movement and shooting up front. We ran out easy winners in the end. We made the trip to Bandon on Sunday 3rd September. Killeagh were well on top in one of the matches, the lads were well on top all over the field. The management were delighted with the effort and the quality of the scores. In the other game Killeagh had a serious battle on their hands. We trailed by a goal

at half time. The lads responded well and pulled ahead by seven points with five minutes left. A few mistakes left Bandon back into it and we were clinging on and mightily relieved to be a point up at the finish.

Glen Rovers travelled to Killeagh on 7th September. The teams played two brilliant games of hurling. Both games were tough and physical and the lads learned a lot from it. In the first game we trailed by two points at half time but a scoring burst from our midfielders and forwards proved the difference. Killeagh were seven point victors at full time. In the second game Killeagh got off to a poor start and trailed at half time. The second half saw a much improved performance and the lads rallied to finish just a goal behind at the end. The hurling on display from both sides was exceptional. One win and one loss resulted in a draw overall on the night. The U9 Squad is: Alex Fogarty, Alex Howey, Andrew Brenner, Ben Geary, Billy Guerin, Callum Power, Cathal Brennan, Cormac Deane, Cormac Delaney, Daniel Geary, Darragh Sheehan, Diarmuid Fitzpatrick, Eoin Sheehan, John Farquhar, Patrick Dineen, Rian Lane, Rian O'Connor, Ryan Murphy, Sean O'Leary, Senan McDonnell, Tom Power.
