Carrigaline Court Championship draws for Fe18, Fe 16 and Fe14

GAA season is in full swing and the much anticipated Championship is upon us. Wednesday 28th saw our Chairperson and Secretary head to Carrigaline Court to oversee the all-important Championship draws. After the regular fortnightly fixtures meeting delegates sharpened their pencils, took out their notebooks and held their breaths to see who they would be pitied against in the all-important first round clash. First draw made was that for the minor grade. Our opposition in the opening game is Sliabh Rua on the 11th July, venue and time to be confirmed. Winners of this clash will play the winner of either Fermoy or Ballinhassig. There is a back door in this competition which would see the losers of these games play each other for another chance of championship glory. Our Fe16’s drew Ballygarvan in their First round clash scheduled for 31st July, further details to be confirmed at a later stage. A victory in this game would see us advance to a semi-final and with no back door in this competition a loss would see our bid for silverware ended. And finally Our Fe14’s are up against Cobh in their first round tie. The game is due to be played around the 16th August with venue and time to be confirmed at a later date. A coveted place in the Semi-final is the prize for the winners with the losers ending their championship campaign. Lots of exciting games ahead so keep an eye for further details and come out to support the boys.

Golf Society:

The Killeagh GAA Golf Classic comes of age this year, with our 21st Annual Golf Classic. Our 2016 Classic was another great success thanks to all those who contributed so generously, both golfers and sponsors, and we were blessed with good weather also! The funds raised are absolutely essential to keep our club’s finances in good health, and to finance the loans we have incurred in developing our excellent facilities in Páirc Uí Chinnéide. 2017 will see further development of our facilities and continued commitment to our ongoing work with our teams and our community. This year’s Golf Classic will take place in West Waterford Golf Club on Thursday July 13th, Friday July 14th and Saturday July 15th. Please contact our Golf Classic Chairman, Ray Rochford on 0872330054 to see how you can help this year.

Society Outing:

Our next outing is to Mahon GC on August 10th with tee times from 2pm

Healthy Clubs Project

Killeagh GAA - Killeagh Camogie - Inch Rovers Ladies Football - Killeagh-Ita's Juvenile GAA

The GAA and RNLI have combined to promote water safety this summer with their RESPECT THE WATER campaign. Kevin Daly and his colleagues Patsy, Mark, Karen and Alan, all volunteers from Youghal RNLI gave a very interesting presentation and Q&A in relation to this theme on mid-summers day, June 21st in Pairc Ui Chinneide. With GAA stars such as Jackie Tyrrell, Lee Chin and Lyndsey Davey promoting this water safety campaign, and given our proximity to the beautiful beaches of East Cork and West Waterford, this was a timely intervention from the RNLI team. Many thanks to them, to those who turned up on the evening, and to Aoife O’Brien and the Healthy Clubs Team in Croke Park for developing this collaboration with RNLI.

On Saturday July 15th Killeagh Healthy Clubs Project invites anyone interested to meet at the Clonea Stop (Scartore) on the beautiful Waterford Greenway at 10.30 a.m. From there we will walk, jog or cycle east, through the impressive railway tunnel and onwards towards Kilmacthomas. Those who intend to come, please text Colman 085-7540973 in advance.

HEALTHY CLUB WALK NO. 18 Sunday July 30th 10.00 a.m. Galtybeg / Galtymore Hill Walk. For those who are perhaps slightly more ambitious, we will walk to the summit of Galtybeg and perhaps Galtymore, the highest point in the spectacular Galtee mountain range. This is a 3-4 hour round trip, and requires a reasonable degree of physical fitness, and may not be suitable for very young children. This is a preparatory hill walk in advance of our planned assault of Carrauntouhill at the end of August, with details of this adventure to be provided in the coming weeks. Again, text Colman if you intend to come on this hill walk.
