Carrigtwohill GAA Club Notes 22-05-17

Minor Hurling League

Carrigtwohill 2-19 Sliabh Rua 1-15 on May 2nd in Carrigtwohill

Minor Non-exam Hurling League

Carrigtwohill 0-5 Inniscarra 0-15 on Friday May 5th in Carrigtwohill

Douglas 0-18 Carrigtwohill 1-7 on Friday May 12th in Douglas

A busy month for our minors has seen them continue their strong showing in the minor hurling league where they have now won 2 games out of 3 and drawn the 3rd. A good win over Sliabh Rua was cemented by two great individual goals from Alan Warren and John Carroll and excellent scores added on by Liam Gosnell, James Mulcahy and Brendan Twomey ensured a clear Carrig victory. Cillian Carroll also impressed at corner back on his minor debut.

For those hurlers who have upcoming exams in June there was a break from match play as Carrig began their non-exam league campaign with losses against strong Inniscarra and Douglas teams. Blarney and Valley Rovers make up the remainder of the 5-team competition which serves as a great opportunity for younger members of the minor panel to get game time and gain valuable experience at this level. The non-exam league continues this Friday in Carrig against Valley Rovers at 7.30pm.

Senior Hurling Championship:

This Sunday, May 28th, our senior hurlers play their opening round of the hurling championship against Midleton in Páirc Uí Rinn at 2.15pm. Good performances in league and challenge games in recent weeks give room for optimism for what will be, at the very least, a lively encounter. This game is the first of a double-header with Glen Rovers and Sars contesting a 4 o’clock throw-in.
''The losers of Carrig and Midleton will play the losers of Bandon and Blackrock in Round 2B''. with the winners taking on the victors from the Erin’s Own and Killeagh tie in Round 2A. We wish our senior hurlers the best of luck and ask for a show of support on Sunday that their hard work deserves.

Primary Games

Last Sunday in Thurles was a great day for Cork hurling after an epic win over All-Ireland champions Tipperary. A fine display of hurling and athleticism was not confined to the 70 minutes of this game however as Carrigtwohill’s Adam Rooney and Ciara Walsh showed at half time when participating in the primary games on behalf of their schools. Congratulations to Adam and Ciara on a wonderful achievement.
