Juvenile News

Quiz Proceeds

Half the proceeds of our recent Primary Schools Table Quiz, held on March 30th in Killeagh Hall, were presented to Inch Hall Committee Members Majella Hurley, Margaret Mulcahy, Noreen O’Keeffe and Richard Collins on Wednesday last in Pairc Ui Chinnéide. Well done to the committee for their Trojan work in transforming Inch Hall into a beautiful facility available and accessible to all in our community.

On a very cold evening, 24th April, the U-12's travelled to Carrignavar to play our third football match, captained by Jack O'Connor who gave an outstanding display. The first half was a mix of good and bad football from the Killeagh lads and we were well behind at half time. Ten minutes into the second half the boys started to play really well, digging in deep. We were three goals down, but they never gave up - hitting the post, the keeper – everything except the net. But with fantastic support from the spectators, they kept trying and finally broke through with a brace of goals and points. They won the match in great style........ 5-9 to 4-6. It was an amazing comeback. Darragh O'Brien, Conor Burns and Fionn Murphy were names that stood out, but everyone put in an outstanding effort. Well done to all !! We played our first U-12 hurling game against Bride Rovers on Thursday 27th April. Darragh O'Brien was the captain for the day, and led by example with a man of the match display. The first half, we were completely off. But after a few changes in the second half, we improved, but not enough to match Bride Rovers skill and strength. The final score was 7-9 to 3-2. We had a lot to improve on after that game. The following Monday we met St Colman's at home. Captain for the day was Sean O'Riordan who led his team from the very first minute. We played very well in the first half, putting up a great score. Diarmuid Buckley played some great football and with Sean Meade and Barry Walsh increasing the scoreline, we ran out clear winners – 8-13 to 0-1. We were out again the following Wednesday night – a hurling game

against Watergrasshill. Captain for the day was Liam Considine and he had an outstanding game along with all the other boys who wore the Killeagh/Itas jersey that evening. It was a tough, close encounter and we needed a great team effort if we were to win. And that is what we got...........and more. They chased, hooked and blocked and Sean Meade in goal made some fantastic saves. A very proud display from each and every one of the boys. An excellent team performance. We won 2-6 to 2-4. Well done! We would again like to thank the parents who are a constant source of encouragement to the team. We couldn't do it without all the support you give.

Golf Society:

The Killeagh GAA Golf Classic comes of age this year, with our 21st Annual Golf Classic. Our 2016 Classic was another great success thanks to all those who contributed so generously, both golfers and sponsors, and we were blessed with good weather also! The funds raised are absolutely essential to keep our club’s finances in good health, and to finance the loans we have incurred in developing our excellent facilities in Páirc Uí Chinnéide. 2017 will see further development of our facilities and continued commitment to our ongoing work with our teams and our community. This year’s Golf Classic will take place in West Waterford Golf Club on Thursday July 13th, Friday July 14th and Saturday July 15th. Please contact our Golf Classic Chairman, Ray Rochford on 0872330054 to see how you can help this year.

Society Outing:

The next society outing is to Youghal GC on Saturday June 17th with tee times from 12pm. This outing is our Captain's Prize outing which is being presented this year by Mr. Michael (Haulie) Collins. Guests are more than welcome to attend and full and further details are with Ray on 0872330054.

There is also a Tuesday Group Outing coming up soon to Dundrum GC costing €25. It takes place on Tuesday May 23rd and full details and bookings are with Ray on 0872330054

Healthy Clubs Project

Killeagh Healthy Clubs Project is an initiative jointly run by the 4 clubs using Páirc Uí Chinnéide namely, Killeagh GAA, Killeagh Camogie, Inch Rovers Ladies Football and Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA Clubs. The project has been running since February 2016 and many activities and changes in practices have taken place under its direction. There have been monthly walks, a CouchTo5K running group, Páirc Uí Chinnéide has gone ‘smoke-free’, and there has been an emphasis on healthy eating in activities run by all four clubs. In recognition of the work done to date, the Killeagh Healthy Clubs Project has been selected as one of the ‘Champion Clubs’ to spread the message of healthy living to other clubs and communities.

Competition Winners

Well done to all the children from the four primary schools who participated in the Healthy Clubs Project poster and story competition. Over 250 entries have been gathered and are now on display in Páirc Uí Chinnéide. Winners received their prizes in school this week when Sharon Roche and Sandra O’Brien visited, laden down with gifts for the 20 winners and thanks for all those who entered. We will repeat the exercise in 2018. Many thanks to all the children who participated and to the teachers and staff members in the schools who facilitated and supported our project.
