Juvenile News

Fé16 B1 East Football League

On a bitterly cold Tuesday evening we welcomed Castlelyons to Killeagh to play our second game of this competition. Our first game saw us secure maximum league points when we played Killara so it was important to win this game to hold our position on the league table. We were first to score with a lovely point off the boot of Oisin, however even though we had the majority of possession we failed to convert this to scores. Unfortunately for our lads our opponents, with very little ball managed to score 2-02. Before the half time whistle blew we did halt the advance of our opponents and put three more points on the board, two from Oisin and one from Dara. Referee Pa Beausang blew the whistle on a very frustrating half for both the Killeagh players and mentors alike. Some plain talking at half time from the mentors saw our boys take to the pitch with renewed determination. Once again Oisin opened our scoring with another fine point. This was the proverbial game of two halves... we outscored Castlelyons with an impressive 1-14 to a solitary point for the entire second half. The transformation in the boys was unbelievable and we were kicking some fantastic points. Well done to Cian on his expertly taken kick on goal which saw the Castlelyons goalie picking the ball from the back of the net. With the light failing we finished out the game with the aid of artificial lighting and when the full time whistle blew we were victorious on a score

line of 1-18 to 2-03. Panel: R Treacy, E Cosgrove, D Lucey, G Sinclair, Cathal Fitzgibbon, D Kelly(0-1), C Coughlan, R Sinclair, C O’Rourke (0-01), D Motherway(0-03), O McCarthy (0-8), D Collins, D O’Connor(0-02), C McDonald (1-00), P Delaney (0-01), R Bernard, R Landers (0-02) , R McCarthy.

Fe 13 & Fe 18 league double header

Come early and stay late! Friday 5th May gives you the opportunity to support young and (relatively) old in our juvenile section. Pairc Ui Chinneide is the venue with the Fe13's facing Lisgoold in hurling league and our minors facing Ballinhassig in hurling league also. Our minors have played 3 games to-date and have recorded two good wins to place them top of the league table. Unfortunately our Fe13 aren't doing as well so the extra support of the home crowd would be most appreciated. Throw in for U13's is 7.00 followed by an 8.30 throw-in for the minors.

Carrigaline Court Hotel Fe15 P2 Hurling Championship

Following on from our Fe15 win over Valley Rovers in the quarter final which was played in Delanys recently we now meet St. Colman’s in the semi-final. Going on past encounters of these two teams this is going to be a closely contested competitive game. The venue is Castlemartyr on Tuesday 2nd of May with a throw in time of 6.45. So folks instead of battling with rush hour traffic in Killeagh Village drop in and support our boys. The winners of this semi-final clash will face Ibane Gaels in the final which is scheduled to be played on Saturday May 6th.

KILLEAGH GAA 21st ANNUAL GOLF CLASSIC 2017

The Killeagh GAA Golf Classic comes of age this year, with our 21st Annual Golf Classic. Our 2016 Classic was another great success thanks to all those who contributed so generously, both golfers and sponsors, and we were blessed with good weather also! The funds raised are absolutely essential to keep our club’s finances in good health, and to finance the loans we have incurred in developing our excellent facilities in Páirc Uí Chinnéide. 2017 will see further development of our facilities and continued commitment to our ongoing work with our teams and our community. This year’s Golf Classic will take place in West Waterford Golf Club on Thursday July 13th, Friday July 14th and Saturday July 15th. Please contact our Golf Classic Chairman, Ray Rochford on 0872330054 to see how you can help this year.

Healthy Clubs Project

Killeagh Healthy Clubs Project is an initiative jointly run by the 4 clubs using Páirc Uí Chinnéide namely, Killeagh GAA, Killeagh Camogie, Inch Rovers Ladies Football and Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA Clubs. The project has been running since February 2016 and many activities and changes in practices have taken place under its direction. There have been monthly walks, a CouchTo5K running group, Páirc Uí Chinnéide has gone ‘smoke-free’, and there has been an emphasis on healthy eating in activities run by all four clubs. In recognition of the work done to date, the Killeagh Healthy Clubs Project has been selected as one of the ‘Champion Clubs’ to spread the message of healthy living to other clubs and communities.

The Healthy Clubs Project continues with weekly and monthly events. One event coming up that we are looking for people to participate in is the DARKNESS INTO LIGHT WALK in Midleton in aid of PIETA HOUSE on Saturday May 6th. Register with the KILLEAGH HEALTHY CLUBS PROJECT team on dil.pieta.ie or contact Colman 085-7540973 to join our Healthy Clubs Team on this very worthy cause. Well done to all the children from the four primary schools who participated in the Healthy Clubs Project poster and story competition. Keep an eye out in Páirc Uí Chinnéide for the entries which will be on display over the next few weeks.
