Healthy Clubs Project

Killeagh Healthy Clubs Project is an initiative jointly run by the 4 clubs using Páirc Uí Chinnéide namely, Killeagh GAA, Killeagh Camogie, Inch Rovers Ladies Football and Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA Clubs. The project has been running since February 2016 and many activities and changes in practices have taken place under its direction. There have been monthly walks, a CouchTo5K running group, Páirc Uí Chinnéide has gone ‘smoke-free’, and there has been an emphasis on healthy eating in activities run by all four clubs. In recognition of the work done to date, the Killeagh Healthy Clubs Project has been selected as one of the ‘Champion Clubs’ to spread the message of healthy living to other clubs and communities. This process begins in Nemo Rangers on Saturday February 18th when the Healthy Clubs Munster Roadshow takes place. Killeagh Healthy Clubs Project Team will be assisting camogie and now media star and Healthy Clubs Ambassador Anna Geary in promoting Healthy Eating. With a large crowd expected, this is a good fillip for the enthusiastic team behind the Killeagh Healthy Clubs Project, and will provide an incentive to continue the good work throughout 2017. Local events taking place:

Walking Group: Walk No. 7, January 29th 2017

This walk took place on Sunday morning and walkers met up in Claycastle carpark to walk out to the Slob Bank on the outskirts of Youghal and back to the carpark. While the weather forecast was not great it did not dampen the enthusiasm of those assembling at the carpark. We set out

from the carpark at approximately 9.30am and proceeded along the Boardwalk, Front Strand, down Strand Street, along the Harbour Front and out to the point of the original Youghal Bridge. This walk took just under the hour and after a brief rest and some insights and history of the area from Colman we turned and headed for home. Unfortunately the weather got a little worse but the exercise and company helped us all to ignore the dreaded rain. It eased off a little as we approached Green Park and up to the Lighthouse and eventually died away out on the boardwalk. All in all it was a very nice walk, lasting just around the two hours and despite the elements it was enjoyed by all, young and old alike. Look out for the next walk coming up in February and try your best to take part.

Workshop:

There will be a free healthy eating cookery workshop/practical for teenagers with FREE Recipe Book in Pobalscoil na Tríonóide, Youghal, Sat Feb 4th 10.30-1.00. This is an excellent workshop, with great tips on healthy food. Text Colman 085-7540973 to book your place, only 20 places available

That’s it for now. Be thinking of what we can do for the coming months…..Colman

Killeagh GAA Road Race

This year’s Killeagh 4 Mile Road Race will take place on Sunday March 5th. After the great success of last year, plans are well underway for the 2017 event with the main race starting at 11am and those taking part in the walking event will start at 10am. The event is now being organised under the Killeagh Healthy Clubs project, incorporating Killeagh GAA adult and juvenile clubs, Inch Rovers LGFC and Killeagh Camogie club and with the assistance of Youghal AC. We are encouraging all Runners, Joggers or Walkers to come out and support this event and to try and build on the success of last year. There are a number of couch to 5km running groups to help anyone interested in beginning to get active for the New Year such as: Our own Healthy Clubs running group who are running the streets of Killeagh regularly over the winter, contact Coleman Motherway or Helen Cusack for more information. Youghal AC have a beginners woman's group each Monday meeting at Tides car park at 6pm. Ballintotis Fit for Life are also catering for anyone interested in taking up running for the New Year. So there are no excuses and there's plenty of opportunity to get ready to take part in this year’s event.
