Castlelyons GAA Club Notes

06 December, 2016

Castlelyons GAA Notes week ended 5th December, 2016.

New Gym for Castlelyons GAA.

Our new Gym will be ready for Monday 12th December, 2016 in a temporary setting with queries already when will bodies be sufficiently sculpted to vacate the present room as it will be urgently required for the playing season. So hopefully there will be a permanent location soon. This is an initiative by the players as they have worked hard in raising funds. Such facilities are commonplace in most Clubs and it is good to see our own lads stepping up to the mark and it may help along the way to eventual success.

Ollie O Brien. James Barry. Peter Murphy. Seanie Cotter. William O Sullivan. Brian Casey. Next week's Jackpot is €6, 800 and the next draw will be held on Monday 12th December, 2016, again at the Abbey Tavern. St Kieran’s College, Kilkenny 2-12 St Colman’s College, Fermoy 1-12

This was a cracking game in Clonmel on Sunday as St Colman’s went down by a narrow margin to that other great hurling nursery St Kieran’s of Kilkenny. In fact, ten minutes into the second half Colman’s led by a point but Kieran’s finished stronger to claim the title. This was a great journey for St Colman’s and must be viewed as developing for the future as there is a big panel and they will challenge for major trophies again. Well done to the mentors Mr Garvan Queeney, Cahir (Vice Principal), Mr James Condon, Newcastle and our own Anthony Spillane who gave so much time with this team. Congratulations and well done to all the panel who made such a great effort this year. Beidh lá eile.

Children’s Officer.

Mr John Flynn has been appointed Children’s Officer for Castlelyons GAA Club replacing Michael Griffin who stepped down due to work commitments and was thanked for his contribution over the last number of years. John is a community Garda based in Cork City and has been involved with the club for some time and we wish him well.

County Convention on 11th December, 2016.

The Annual Convention of the Cork County Board will be held at Áras Roanaithe Nemo on Sunday 11th December, 2016, commencing at 2.30 pm. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be celebrated on Convention afternoon at 1.30 pm in memory of all deceased members. It is hoped that the officers of the Club and delegates will attend. 2017 will be a historic year as the development of Páirc Uí Chaoimh on schedule and due to reopen on the 18th June and the All-Weather Pitch on June 24th. Congrats to the Steering Committee on their great

work. The development is outstanding but 2016 could have been better in the playing fields so we hope that 2017 will be a big year for Cork.
