Juvenile Round Up

U14s live to fight another day

U14B County Hurling Final - Lisgoold 1-10 vs 0-13 Keale Gaels

Our U14 hurlers fought back from what seemed to be an impossible position early in the first half to force a draw in the U14B County final vs Keale Gaels (Milstreet/Dromtarrifffe) in Killavullen last Sat afternoon. This was always going to be a close match – reigning Lisgoold Feile B champions facing the North Cork champions, who had comprehensively beaten St. Kevin’s (combining Milford and Ballyclough) in the North Cork decider earlier this year. Keale Gaels had much the better of the early exchanges and had raced into a 0-06 to 0-1 point lead by 17 minutes. Their strong running half-forward line was punching holes in the Lisgoold defence. Crucially, a goal was not conceded in this period, while at the other end a goal from Jamie Brown rescued the game from slipping away. By half time, the lads faced a tough but manageable task of overturning a 2 point deficit: 1-03 vs 0-08. The second half was a more even contest, with the mobility of Izaak and Diarmuid in the half forward line causing some problems for the Gaels. Mark Hegarty stormed into the game and landed a couple of frees from the halfway line and one from his own 65 that is rare to be seen at this age. Despite this, Lisgoold were 2 points down with 4 minutes to go. Late points from Isaak and Diarmuid drew the sides level and great work by the defenders Jonathan, Dan, Luke, Eoin, James and Christian kept the Gaels at bay for the final few minutes. The replay is likely to be next Saturday with the venue to be fixed.

Lisgoold squad: Christian Howard, Shane Byrne, Thomas Murphy, Mark Hegarty, Jonathan Kelleher, Daniel Buckley, Jamie O'Sullivan, Cormac Hallahan, Luke Thompson, James O'Driscoll, Sean Murphy, Diarmuid Fitzpatrick, Fionn McSweeney, Dan Power, Eoin Holden, Jamie Browne, Izaak Walsh, Oisin Shanahan, Mark O'Keeffe, Diarmuid Healy, Noel O'Driscoll.

Minors advance to County Final

U18B County Hurling Semi-Final - Lisgoold 0-14 vs 0-10 Ballycosgry Rovers

In the second match in Killavullen last Sat, a strong first-half display from Lisgoold set the foundation for this semi-final victory over Ballycosgry Rovers (Ballyhea/Churchtown/Liscarroll). Lisgoold settled into the game well with Kieran Cashman and Cian Healy dominant at centre- and full-back. Early indiscipline by the North Cork champions was punished by Cathal Hickey who, in Liam O’s absence, stepped forward to take on the free taking duties. On 20 minutes, Lisgoold had established a 0-06 to 0-02 point lead. Ballycosgry’s mobile half forward line began to threaten and by half-time, only 3 points separated the sides: 0-08 vs 0-05. The second half was another low scoring affair, but without ever being in total control, Lisgoold kept Ballycosgry at arm’s length throughout and

ended up with a 4 point winning margin. The result sets up a rematch of the East Region runners-up, Lisgoold versus champions, Watergrasshill.

Team: James Murphy, Sean Nagle, Cian Healy, Sean Whelan, Robbie Kinnane, Kieran Cashman, Jason Hegarty, Cathal Hickey, Caolan O’Brien, Liam Stack, Aidan McDonagh, Luke Walsh, Evan Manning, Robert Williams, Eoghan Young. Subs: Declan O’Brien, Liam O’Shea, Ross Shanahan, Emmet Roche, Fionn Morey, Eoin Ruane.

U16 B League Semi-Final

Lisgoold 0-12 vs 2-08 Whitechurch

Our U16s qualified for the league semi-final after finishing runners-up in league B2, and travelled to Whitechurch on Monday night to face the home side. Despite Lisgoold being 2 points up at half-time, Whitechurch had the better of this encounter in the second half and advanced to the league final.

Roanmore Tournament

Our U8 team competed in the Roanmore inter county hurling blitz with teams from Munster and Leinster represented. The lads faced Rathgarogue Cushinstown (Co. Wexford), Rower-Inistioge GAA (Co. Kilkenny) and Newcastlewest (Co. Limerick) in their games. By all accounts, they enjoyed the day out and will have learned a lot form this venture.

U9 & U10 Inter-county Tournament

In what was billed as an inter-county tournament, we welcomed Loughmore-Castliney (Co. Tipperary) and An Rinn (Co. Waterford), along with Whites Cross and Granard Gaels (Churchtown/Liscarrol) to Lisgoold last Sat for a round robin hurling tournament. The games provided an opportunity for the lads to experience playing different teams. Each player collected a medal from John Cronin and our U9s and U10s were absolutely thrilled to lift the trophies on offer after winning all their games.

U7 & U8 Tournament

Next Saturday will be another busy morning in our pitch as our U7s and U8s host visiting teams in another round-robin tournament.
