Junior Football.

Our Junior A footballers qualified for this year’s Michael O’Connor sponsored East Cork final by virtue of a hard fought 5 point win over Carignavar.

Played on Friday night last under the lights in Castlelyons on an ideal night for football we were slow to settle and quickly found ourselves 2 points in arrears. Despite our plentiful possession due to the aerial dominance of Maurice Lynch,Killian Cronin and Paul O’Sullivan we found it hard to register a score due to poor shooting and taking the wrong options.

The aforementioned Morry Lynch crept up from wing back to score two excellent points to get us up and running and further points from Colm and Paudie O’Sullivan has us level four points apiece after 20 minutes.

A high ball to the square which was bravely broken by Colm led to Paudie finishing an excellent volley to the roof of the net to open up a 3 point lead.Carrignavar registered a point on the stroke of half time to leave us two points to the good 1.04 to 5 points.

Given the amount of possession we enjoyed and the waywardness of our shooting we were happy to be ahead at the break.

However we started the second half brightly running at the Carraig defence but crucially couldn’t score missing various point scoring opportunities and one good one on one goal chance.

Carignavar sensing that they were being left of the hook scored two points to level the game once again. Even though our shooting was poor our general play was excellent and our good approach work eventually paid off when Paudie finished an excellent move to the net to put us on the road once again. We controlled the remainder of the game conceding only one further point but adding on three of our own from Paul, Ashley Walsh and a Paudie free to seal an excellent victory.

We now play Castlelyons in the final on Friday night next 2nd Sept in Killeagh where we will strive to add to our 5 previous titles the last of which was the County winning side of 2010.
