East Cork Final Launch night

The East Cork Oil sponsored Jamesy Kelleher Cup, Junior A hurling final has been fixed for Saturday 27th August in Youghals GAA club grounds on Magners Hill with a pm start

Its been a year of highs and lows for the teams taking part and at the end of it all we are left with two teams standing. On the way to the final Sarsfields were first to play in the preliminary round against Carrig na bhFearr on Saturday 18 Jun winning out on a margin of 6 pts with a final score of Carraig na bhFear 0-10 vs Sarsfields 1-13. St Catherines faced last years finalists St Itas in Youghal on the same date with an evening time throw in winning on a scoreline of St Itas 1-11 vs St Catherines 0-21.

It was on to the Quarter Final stages for both teams with St Catherines playing first, on Sat 30th July against Midleton which saw St Catherines win out on a score line of Midleton 0-8 vs St Catherines 1-19. The following Saturday 6th August saw Sarsfields face Carrig na bhFearr and they won out

With the fixtures list becoming increasingly busy it was onto the semi finals stages for both clubs with St Catherines facing Russell Rovers on Sat 13 Aug with St Catherines coming through on a scoreline of St Catherines 3-18 vs Russell Rovers 0-13 and this week saw the other semi final paring face of with Sarsfields coming out victorious on a scoreline of Sarsfields 5-13 vs Cobh 1-10.

The Final

St Catherines will face Sarsfields in this eagerly awaited final on Saturday 27 August with referee Killeagh clubman Ger Scully overseeing the proceedings with a throw in time of 15.00 in Youghal. On the same day it is hoped to honor the 1966 Imokilly & County winners Carrigtwohill at half time. The Jamesy Kelleher Cup has provided many great games over the years and this year with two very strong teams in contention it is hoped that this match will be as good and intense as other years with the winners going on to represent the Imokilly division on Sat 10th Sept when they face Carrigdoun in the first round of the County section of this competition. If you cant make it to the game on Saturday Community Radio Youghal 104 fm will be broadcasting live from 3pm on wards on radio and through their internet website.
