Premier Intermediate Hurling;

Our passage to the semi-final of this year’s championship was secured on Saturday night last with a hard earned victory over pre-tournament favourites Ballinhassig.

Ballinhassig opened the scoring with a pointed free from the throw-in to which Paudie replied to with an excellent point from play after being supplied by a Briain Minihane pass.Ballinhassig restored their lead with a point from play but a Dillon Cahill free and a lovely point from the left wing by the impressive Ashley Walsh had us 3 points to two ahead on 7 minutes. Remarkably this was the end of the scoring until the 20th minute when another Dillon free won by the hard running of Paul O’Sullivan put us 2 ahead.Ballinhassig with 2 points either side of an Ian Cahill point from play had the gap down to one, 2 further Dillon frees and a Ballinhassig effort from play had us 2 ahead heading to the half time break in what up to now had been a dour enough affair with both defences on top.

Things livened up somewhat before the break with Ballinhassig scoring a breakaway goal followed immediately by a point from play to put them 2 ahead, the last act of the half however restored our lead when Colm O’Sullivan finished to the net following a Dillon run and pass to leave us ahead 1.07 to 1.06 at the break.

Whatever was said by team management at half time certainly had the desired effect as we raced out of the blocks scoring 6 points without reply in the first 10 minutes consisting of 2 Dillon frees and 2 from play to accompany a point apiece from Paudie and Ashley.

Ballinhassig replied with 2 points to close the gap but an excellent Paul O’Sullivan point from distance gave us breathing space once aagain.An impressive and important save by James Nyhan yielded a point from the resulting 65 but again credit to our lads who responded with two scores a point from a Dillon free and from play by Paudie.

Entering the closing stages Ballinhassig pressed hard for the much needed goal but could only muster pointed frees and the last score of the game fell to Diarmuid O’Sullivan who pointed a long delivery from sub Brian O’Shea.

There was still time to defend a 21 yard free which was done manfully to see out a great battling win.

Congratulations to all involved in the win and great to see an 18 and 19 year old making their debuts tonight in Brians Walsh and O’Shea.

We now go on to the semi-final where we will play the winners of Inniscarra and Fermoy.
