Juvenile Round Up

East Region C Football.

Lisgoold 2-06 vs 4-09 Grenagh

The minor footballers exited the championship after being beaten by Grenagh. Having suffered a 12 point defeat to the same opposition in the league, and missing some key players, Lisgoold set out to keep scores to a minimum with a withdrawn half-forward line, which sought to break quickly when the Grenagh forward moves broke down. However, in this 12 aside competition, it is difficult to restrict space. Indeed the concession of two first half goals made the task a very difficult one and after 20 minutes the situation looked impossible with Lisgoold trailing 2-2 to 0-1. However, as the game went on, Kieran Cashman, playing in midfield, began to exert his influence on the game and kicked two long range scores, which together with a Liam O’Shea point made it 0-4 to 2-2 at the short whistle and something to play for in the second half. After the break, Cathal Hickey landed a fine point and Cashman brought Lisgoold to within a point, kicking high to the net from close range. Grenagh responded though and two further goals meant that they ran out relatively comfortable winners on the night. A late Lisgoold goal from Kieran Cashman put a better reflection on the scoreline. Team: 1. Luke Walsh, 2. Sean Nagle, 3. Cian Healy, 4. Evan Manning, 5. Liam O’Shea (0-1), 6. Sean Whelan, 7. Kieran Cashman (2-3, 1f), 8. Liam Stack, 9. Jason Hegarty, 10. Cathal Hickey (0-1), 11. James Murphy, 12. Emmet Roche (0-1).
