Aghada GAA Cul Camp Enjoyed By All

What a great week of Sun and Fun for one hundred and seventy five Boys/Girls who attended and enjoyed a week the annual Kelloggs GAA Cul Camp which was held in Rostellan GAA Grounds from the 18th – 22nd July 2016

We were delighted to welcome Hannah Looney Cork Senior dual Camogie and Ladies Football Star, Roisin Phelan Cork Senior Ladies Footballer - Cork, Imokilly and Club Players- Aaron Stafford and Aaron Berry as our senior coaches. All other Minor and Juvenile Coaches are involved with Cork U16 L.F. Cork Camogie, Cork GAA Development Squads or committed Aghada Club Players.

Day 1: Monday: Parents gather in Club House to pick up Kelloggs SUPER Kit Set. A meet and greet session with the Children and Coaches took place in main hall. General Safety and Cul Camp Rules were delivered to all, before the FUN Began!!!! Thanks to Paudie O’Brien Cork County Cul Camp Coordinator for providing All kits when required for Aghada Camp. Paudie must be counting kits instead of sheep at night - with a vast increased number of children this year availing of this brilliant GAA Venture.

Day 1 – Day 4: Football: Develops Catching and Kicking Skills. Develop Ball Control, Bouncing, Soloing, Tackling, Pick Up, Travelling with ball. Develop Accurate Kicking. ( Small Group Games )

Hurling: Develops Striking from Ground/Hand, Control a moving ball, Ground and Aerial Block. Develop Catching Skill, Jab/Roll Lift, Dribble, Soloing and Tackling Drills. (Small Group Games)

On Tuesday the day began with children queuing up to get their face painted in the County Colours. We were delighted to welcome Cork Senior Dual Player Alan Cadogan to Rostellan for his first visit. Today was the hottest day to date for 2016 so to safe guard the children it was organised that Cul Campers would sit “Under the TREE” to listen to their Rebel Hero during the Question/Answers Session. There was great excitement when Alan announced that he would sign everyone’s Jersey/Hurley. Thanks to Shane Supple East Cork GDA, who came to check out the Camp and that all was going to Plan!!!!!

As we are very fortunate to have such outdoor natural amenities adjacent to pitch, a trip to the seashore was a must. Children collected shells and enjoyed the chill out time to mingle with friends.

Each day a rota was in place for the coaches to have their deserved lunch break. Lego Stations were organised for the younger children. Budding Civil Engineers were discovered from the mega builds.

At home time on Thursday, Parents were informed that children DID NOT have to bring – Hurley-Helmet-or Gum Shield as a Final Fun Day had been organised. Children Enjoyed Target Board, Relay Races, Trip to the Sea Shore, Penalty Shoot outs, Bouncing Castles, LOTS of LOUD Music (supplied by Brendan and Richard) and PLENTY WATER to COOL our CUL CAMPERS who enjoyed being hosed. (Thanks To Aghada GAA main Sponsors Phillips 66 and eagerly watched by James and Emer). Medals and “Be Seen Wear The Green” wrist bands went to sport winners with a Trophy Presentation made to twelve over-all winners from the Weeks events on and off the field of play.

Thanks to everyone that helped in anyway, to ensure that All children attending the 2016 Aghada Cul Camp had a very enjoyable SOCIAL week of FUN and GAMES. Thanks to Barry Moran who captures those memorable moments on camera. (Juvenile PRO – mini camera shots)

Thanks to the Senior and Juvenile committee members who continuously give of their time to promote Aghada GAA Club. A special word of thanks to Nurse Ber O’ Shea, First Aid Mary O’ Shea and Cul Camp Co- Coordinators Gill Berry and Vera Terry who volunteered for the week, to provide CARE , organised a programme of events and supervision through-out this very adventurous Camp, that was enjoyed by all.!!!!
