Lisgoold 4-11 vs 2-12 Fr. O’Neill’s

Adapt as required - Team: 1. Ciaran Cronin (0-1 Free), 2. Andrew Donovan, 3. Eoin O’Sullivan, 4. Cian Scannell, 5. Noel Connery, 6. Kieran Cashman, 7. Patrick O’Mahony, 8. John Cronin (0-3), 9. Jack Ryan (1-0), 10. Brendan Flynn, 11. John McCarthy (1-1), 12. Maurice O’Connell (0-1 free), 13. Ciaran O’Shea (0-3, 0-2 65s), 14. John Cashman (1-1), 15. Caomhan O’Shea. A dominant last 15 minutes saw Lisgoold home in this evenly contest tie. Playing against a fresh breeze in the first half, Lisgoold saw plenty of ball. With puc outs and clearances landing regularly inside the Fr. O’Neills 45, there were many opportunites for shot taking. Unfortunately not many of them were taken, perhaps influenced by the wind. So despite the strong start, and with the wides tally mounting (were to finish with 9 first half wides), Fr. O’Neills took control of the first half. Scoring some nice points, they engineered a scramble of a goal, despite the best efforts of Ciaran and his defence to keep it out. But charging through the middle on occasion, John Cronin led a mini revival and soon we were to get a goal of our own – a nice finish from John Cashman, who despite moving into full forward in an attempt to shake off an injury, showed composure when it mattered. At the short whistle we were only down 3 points (1-7 to 1-4) and with the breeze to come we were in a decent position.

However, the 2nd half started with Fr. O’Neills getting completely on top. Scoring more freely now, their 2nd goal was coming a while. Their always dangerous full forward finished smartly and the Lisgoold boys were now under serious pressure. A dominant last 15 minutes from Lisgoold, ably led by Jack Ryan around the middle (who really thundered into the game), turned things around. A nice ‘doubler’ from John McCarthy (following a nice sideline from Ciaran O’Shea) followed quickly by a goal from Jack Ryan put Lisgoold back into the game. A few nice points from play followed as the challenge from Fr. O’Neills petered out, with their last few attacks well marshalled by the Lisgoold defence. A late goal by Ryan Hogan following a nice pass by Maurice O’Connell sealed the win. Onwards to the next round where we play Carrig na bhFear.

Cúl Camp

Last week, Lisgoold GAA Club hosted another successful hurling and football Cúl Camp, with 98 children attending. The camp was coordinated by Aidan Forest and ran from Monday to Friday. The kids left each day tired, but happy and returned each morning with renewed enthusiasm. Highlight of the camp for many was the visit of Alan Cadogan and John Cronin who stood in for penalty shoot outs, passed on advice to the kids and signed autographs. For others, the visit of the ice-cream van was the high point and everyone had good fun at the water fight on the final day. A special thanks to the excellent coaches Edel, Leanne, Saerlaith, Laura, Sean, Liam, Fergal and Ciaran who worked tirelessly to ensure the kids had five fun-filled days. A final word of thanks to all involved in the organization, especially Aidan, Hilary and Keith.

Juvenile Round Up

It’s been relatively quiet of late on the playing front due to peak holiday season, but shortly the minors will be out on championship duty. Please check-in with coaches to ensure match details are correct closer to the date.
