ALL Good things must come to an end

The headline speaks for itself once again as the old saying goes all good things must come to an end when last Sunday afternoon Glenville’s intermediate Campaign came to end after a three point defeat at the hand of Mitchelstown in the third round of the intermediate Football Championship. After nearly every championship defeat we will start to ask questions like was it a game that we should of won did we take the right options all these questions we need to answer and analyse before next season comes. Like any Championship game Both teams came into the game in impressive fashion with our lads coming off the back of a seven point win over Youghal in the previous round and who have also won their last four league games. We faced a Mitchelstown team that we had beaten earlier on in the season by five points but championship is a totally different ball game both teams stated off well with so earlier points been exchanged with Glenville leading 0-2 to 0-1 after five minutes but Glenville were dealt a blow in the tenth minute when a long ball came into the box only for the Mitchelstown player to fist it into the back off the net. Glenville kept the score board ticking over through the concession of Paudie Cahill Points and by the Half time whistle it was still all to play for with both teams level at 1-3 to 0-6. The second was very nip and tuck for the majority of the half but From the fifteen minute to the twenty minute Mitchelstown went on a scoring spree and the looked to put the game to bed but points from Cahill, Brendan Healy, Kieran Coakley and Ben Halbert reduced the deficit down to four points. Glenville introduced Josh Cooke with five minutes to go and straight away made an immediate impact with the first ball he got took on this man spun around to the left but for only the ball to be blocked at the vital moment. Cooke then added a point from a free a minute later to leave the scores at 0-11 to 1-11 with time almost up Glenville had one last chance to snatch a draw in injury time but the effort we wide and that was that our Campaign for 2016 has come to an end. Full credit must go to our lads who never gave up and I have no dough we come back stronger next season. The very best of luck to Mitchelstown in the next round of the Championship.
