Junior B Hurling Championship;

The Junior B hurlers began their 2016 campaign with a victory over Erin’s Own on Friday night last. A night that was more October than July where a strong wind and mist blew for one end to the other.

We started very well with Philip Considine goaling from a Cian Motherway delivery in the first 5 minutes, followed by a Maurice Walsh point from play. Erin’s Own backed by the elements scored 1.03 without reply to move into the lead.

A Peter Casey goal and a further Maurice Walsh point edged us ahead once again before Erin’s Own hit a purple patch with unanswered points to lead heading to half time. A Ciaran Mullins point following a great catch and delivery from full back Eoin Motherway closed the half’s scoring to leave the game level 2.04 to 1.07.

Two shared frees opened the second half’s scoring before a Ciaran point from play and a further Cian free had us 2 points ahead. Erin’s Own scored 2 points which bookended an excellent Brian Walsh score from play from another delivery from the Cloyne full backline to edge us ahead once again.

Excellent defending from the Cloyne rear guard kept Erin’s Own scoreless for the remainder of the game and we finished strongly with points from Brian Walsh, a Cian free and a David Ring score from play to run out 4 points winners 2.11 to 1.10.

Cork Senior Hurlers;

Commiserations to Diarmuid O’Sullivan and the Cork hurlers on their defeat to Wexford in the first round of the qualifiers. It’s hard to put a finger on what went wrong and what the problem is but all we can do is keep striving to improve.

Congratulations to Donal Og and Clare who overcame Limerick to set up a quarter final tie against Galway.

Congratulations also to Tipperary who had an easier than expected victory over Waterford in the Munster Final.
