Premier Minor Hurling: Wed 29th June   Carrigtwohill  0 11 Blarney 1 12

Carrig’s minor hurlers suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of Blarney in the minor hurling League in Carrig last Wednesday, falling away in the final quarter after a reasonably solid performance up to that point. The sides were level at half-time, carrig having squandered a number of opportunities to take the lead into half time. Blarney took the initiative with a goal early in the second half. Carrig fought well but were very unlucky for two goal chances. Going forward Carrig will need to improve their decision making and take their points as the opportunities present themselves but there are lots of positives to take from the game as we prepare for minor hurling championship next week.  Carrig Squad: Ryan O Donovan, Jack Scully, Ollie Baverstock, Kevin Coady, Kitan Oke, Aaron Walsh Barry, Conor O’ Mahony , Sean Sullivan, Brendan Twomey, Shane O’Hanlon , Liam Gosnell, Ronan Donnelly, Darragh McCann, Daire Crotty, Conor O Donovan, Ryan Conroy, Dylan Deane, Conor Harte, Cormac Horgan, Shane Ryan, Conor Keegan

Under 16 Hurling Carrig 2 14 Ballyhea 0 14

Carrig made the long journey to Ballyhea last Monday evening to take on the local side in Round 4 of the Under 16 Hurling league and came away with a brace of points after a tough encounter on a 2 14 to 0 14 scoreline. The home side set the early running with some well taken points but as the game got more competitive Carrig came back to level at the break 1 4 to 0 7 with the goal coming from a solo effort by David Folasade. Carrig put in a strong second half and a further goal from full forward Ryan O'Donovan and a succession of well taken points from several Carrig players was enough to secure victory for Carrig. Well done to all involved. Final score Carrig 2 14 Ballyhea 0 14. Team and Panel on duty. They drew with Cobh 3 13 to 4 10 and followed with a victory over Sarsfields 3 15 to 4 9.Both games proved very worthwhile for forthcoming challenges.

Under 15 Hurling Carrigtwohill 3 10 Inniscarra 3 14 Carrig under 15 Hurlers travelled to Ballyanley last Friday evening to play Inniscarra in Round 4 of the Under 15 league. This was always going to be a tough assignment for the Carrig lads who put up a tremendous performance despite being short a number of regulars and went down gallantly at the end on a 3 14 to 3 10 scoreline. With the aid of a very stiff breeze Carrig were the better team in the first half and had the luxury of a seven point lead at half time. But try as they might they could not contain the Inniscarra comeback in the second half .Our next game in the competition is a home game to Passage.

Junior Hurling Championship Sunday 26th June Carrigtwohill 1 17 Carrignavar 0 17.

Carrig Junior hurlers put in a tremendous performance in the first round of the championship when defeating Carrignavar in Lisgoold. Having played with a slight breeze in the first half Carrig went in at the break behind 0 11 to 0 7.However things could have been a lot closer if Carrig had taken their chances and it was quite evident that Carrig were as good as if not better than their opponents following the opening proceedings. Carrig dominated the game in the second half taking the game to their opponent’s .They forced their opponents into error from tremendous pressure and work rate. The lead was gradually whittled away with several players getting on the scoresheet to tie up the game 0 13 each with five minutes remaining. Despite several chances Carrig could not get the winner so the game went into extra time. Carrig players found renewed energy in extra time and it soon became clear that there was only going to be one winner. Carrig thought they had clinched the winner when Luke Kelly O Regan latched on to a cross to put the ball in the Carrignavar net but the goal was disallowed for an earlier infringement. However moments later justice was done when Conor Keegan tapped in from close range to seal the deal and leave Carrig winners at the end 1 17 to 0 17.
A great performance from the Carrig panel who now await the winners of Cobh/Bride Rovers in Rnd 3. Well done to all.
