Healthy Club Project 2016-2017 Activities:

Páirc Uí Chinnéide Goes Smoke-Free – Clock Is Ticking Towards August 1st!

“If you go down to the woods today …” begins the “Teddy Bears’ Picnic”. Well, we’ve got a new rap that will apply from Monday August 1st: “if you go down to the pitch today, leave your cigarettes at home!” We’re going Smoke-Free, for the benefit of all, especially our younger members. Hopefully every user / visitor will respect our new direction and help to make our shared air cleaner and healthier for all of us.

CouchTo5K Full Of Perspiration and Inspiration

Our CouchTo5K running group had more new members last Monday, and a motivating pep talk from Liam O’Reilly, expert fitness guru and coach to professional athletes. This encouraged some of the group to meet again on Wednesday and Thursday, and we would like to add further numbers to this group over the next few weeks. The gender balance has seen the males fall behind, so men of Killeagh and around, get up off the couch and put one foot in front of the other! No point using Euro 2016 as an excuse now, with only three matches left, none on Mondays! The Olympics are coming, this is your chance for your own little mini-Olympic feeling!

Meanwhile, our committed Saturday morning running group in Glenbower continue to meet at 9.00 a.m. every Saturday and we’ve had some more new people join us last Saturday. Daylight hours are at their maximum now, so 9.00 a.m. is really the middle of the day! Get up, clear the cobwebs, and you’ll be buzzing for the rest of Saturday!

Upcoming Club Events Diary 2016:

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile News

Rebel Óg Premier 2 Fé 15 Hurling League

Killeagh-Ita’s 6-15, Blackrock 5-8

Our Under 15 team maintained their 100% record in this year’s Premier 2 Hurling League with a 10 point victory over Blackrock in Killeagh on Friday evening last. The margin of victory certainly does not reflect adequately how close this game was, as a flurry of four goals between the 49th and 57th minute helped propel our team to victory. Before the first of those (one of three for Ben O’Connor), the margin had been reduced to one (2-13 to 4-6) and Blackrock had a strong wind behind them. However, this shook our team into action, and in that spell, they scored four goals and conceded just two points. The first half had seen our team play well at times, but having to give second best at times to a committed Rockies outfit, who goaled in the first and 20th minute (this goal should have been prevented as a long free dropped all the way to the net). In between their goals, we dominated up front, and got excellent scores of the green and white variety. Olan Broderick had an outstanding opening quarter, scoring 1-4 from play and rattling the crossbar with another effort, while Darragh O’Connor finished expertly to the net having received a pass from Dara Motherway. A sluggish second half saw us add just two points in the closing 13 minutes of the half, leaving the score 2-10 to 2-4 in our favour at half time. Dara Motherway added two points after the restart but the lead shrank dramatically with the Rockies’ third and fourth goals, before we took control once again for that final quarter. Well done to our team who have now beaten Carrigaline, Ballygarvan, Valley Rovers and Blackrock, but have two tough games remaining against Ballincollig and Na Piarsaigh.

Team: Brian Murphy, Danny Cunningham, Daniel Lucey, Paul Delaney, David Kelly, Richie Landers, Robert Sinclair, Ryan McCarthy, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Ben O’Connor, Oisin McCarthy, Owen Cosgrove, Darragh O’Connor, Olan Broderick, Dara Motherway, Tommy Noonan.
