East Cork Junior A Hurling Championship.

Lisgoold 1-18 vs 1-20 Killeagh.

A very strong second half showing by Killeagh edged out Lisgoold in an exciting encounter in the Junior A championship in Dungourney on Fri night. Lisgoold will be disappointed to lose this game especially after taking a 6 point lead into half time. While Killeagh were quicker out of the blocks and had 3 early points on the scoreboard, a John McCarthy goal and points from Caolain O’Brien and Ciaran O’Shea brought Lisgoold to life. John Cronin got on a lot of ball at midfield and a magnificent double save from Ciaran Cronin kept Lisgoold in the ascendancy. Killeagh were struggling to contain John Cashman, who landed some magnificent points to ensure Lisgoold were in a strong position going into the interval. On 31 minutes, a John Cashman free put Lisgoold 7 points up, before the sides swapped scores as Brian Clifford skilfully executed an overhead swing to leave the score 1-13 to 0-09. The game changing moment came next when Dan Landers smashed a fantastic goal from distance to bring Killeagh right back into the game. Using the wind advantage to good effect, they got a lot of joy from high balls landing on the 40 meter line. John Cashman continued to take the fight to Killeagh with 3 more points, but by the 47th minute the sides were level on 1-14 apiece. The sides swapped scores and were level at 1-17 each before Killeagh took a 2 point lead into the final minutes. A long distance free from Ciaran Cronin brought the deficit back to the minimum but Killeagh took the last score to leave it 1-20 to 1-18 on the final whistle. Lisgoold now face Fr. O’Neill’s in the second round in a fixture due to be played before 10th July.
