Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile News

Exams and Exams!

The Junior Cert and Leaving Cert enter their final week, and with their ending, it’s a return to examinations of a different kind for our Under 16 and Minor players, with knock-out championship hurling fixtures in both age levels due in July. First up it’s our Under 16s who will welcome Aghabullogue to Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Monday July 4th in the Eastern A Championship. Our minors will play their third championship game, following a loss to Sarsfields in April and a win over Glen Rovers in May, when they play Douglas at a neutral (as yet undecided) venue on Thursday July 14th. Both panels have been training with reduced numbers over the past few weeks as the books took priority, but from now on, it’s GAA all the way! This Saturday sees both teams get back inside the white line, with our Under 16s playing Cloughduv in Páirc Uí Chinnéide at 3.00 p.m.., followed by the minors welcoming Bishopstown at 6.00 p.m. Best wishes to both teams as they recommence their games.

Cúl Camp – July 18th – don’t forget!

Invariably, every year, someone comes along in June asking when Summer Camp is on. Notes have been distributed to all children in our primary schools, but just in case the school bag (never the child!) mislaid the letter, the following is the important information:

Cúl Camp is here again! We would like all boys and girls in primary school (up to 6th class) to consider taking part in this year’s Cúl Camp. If you would like your child/children to participate in same, please fill out the form attached and return to Ursula in Coleman’s Shop, Killeagh no later than Friday July 1st 2016, with the appropriate fee per family (€55 for first child, €45 for each subsequent child). You can also book your place online at

CouchTo5K Up and Running – Literally

Our CouchTo5K running group got off to a flying start last Monday evening in Páirc Uí Chinnéide as 18 enthusiastic participants took their first steps on this journey. We had some seasoned campaigners (marathon runners among them) helping some novices, and people found their own level pretty quickly. We’ll be meeting every Monday for the next few months as we target the Inch 5K in mid-August, but if that’s not attainable, you can keep going at your own pace. Come along, work up a sweat, and feel better afterwards!

Saturday morning – runners needed!

Our committed Saturday morning running group in Glenbower continue to meet at 9.00 a.m. every Saturday and we’ve had a couple of new people join us in the last few weeks. Daylight hours are at their maximum now, so 9.00 a.m. is really the middle of the day! Get up, clear the cobwebs, and you’ll be buzzing for the rest of Saturday!

Hill Walk No. 1 – next Sunday – book now – it’s FREE!

Hiking boots may help, but sturdy footwear of any kind, a clear head, raingear and a bottle of water, and one foot in front of the other - that’s all you need to participate in our first Hill Walk which takes place next Sunday June 26th in Knockadoon. You can meet in Páirc Uí Chinnéide at 9.30am or in be in Knockadoon at 10.00am. Who knows, you might even bring the togs and get in for a dip afterwards – with full tide at 10.15 a.m. the pier jump might appeal to some! Please text Kieran your name to let us know who is coming – 085-8037343.

U14 Football League

Killeagh-Ita’s U14 took to the pitch in Caherlag on Friday 17th June in Football League against Erins Own.  We had some new faces to our lineout due to holidays and injury but these new faces proved to be a much welcome addition.  Well done to Cormac, Rory and Jack who played absolutely super.  Before the whistle blew it was hard to call this one due to personnel and positional changes however we should never have been in any doubt as Killeagh-Ita’s had a very comfortable win on a score line of 4-16 to 2-03. Ciaran O Rourke got us off to a great start with a lovely point within seconds of the throw in.  Erins Own were continually under pressure in the first half while Padraig in goal was hardly troubled at all.  Four fantastic goals in the first half put the game beyond the reach of Erins Own.  The first by David Collins, left the goalie no chance when he ran at goals, kicked the ball over the goalies head and into the corner of the net. The second was a rocket by Christian Coughlan kicked with such force that he rebounded out of the goal. Christian was involved in the third goal also when he handpassed the ball to Ciaran O Rourke who fisted it over the goalies head.  Last but not least to raise the green flag was Paul who kicked a lovely ball that chipped the goalie and landed in the back of his net. Killeagh-Ita’s headed for the dug out on a halftime score of 4-08 to 0-00.  Erins Own did register some scores in the second half but our boys proved too strong and the full time score read 4-16 to 2-03. Well done to all, there was some great football played. Panel: P Landers, C Fitzpatrick, R Farquhar, R Bernard, G Walsh, B O Connor (0-01) , R Treacy,  D Collins (1-02), D O Doherty (0-01), C Leahy, C Coughlan (1-02) , P Kent (1-01), T McCarty (0-1), C O Rourke (1-05), E Brenner (0-03), R Lynch, J Flanagan.
