Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship.

Congratulations to the panel of players and team management on their excellent first round victory over a much fancied Kanturk team in Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday night last.

On a carpet like surface and a perfect night for hurling we opened brightly with a Paudie O’Sullivan point from play inside the first minute, Kanturk’s reply was immediate with 2 points of their own from play.Diarmuid O’Sullivan was beginning to win a lot of possession in the full forward line and he levelled matters with an excellent point from play.

Kanturk opened up a 2 point gap again which was quickly negated with points from Ian and Dillon Cahill to level matters once again at 4 points apiece.

Kanturk then enjoyed a purple patch over the next 15 minutes and scored 5 unanswered points to lead 9 points to 4 approaching the half time whistle. Crucially in the context of the whole game we scored the last 2 points of the half with a pointed free and 65 from Dillon to leave us only 3 behind at the break 9 to 6.

An excellent start to the second half saw us level the game once again following Colm and Paudie points from play and a Dillon free.Kanturk briefly pulled ahead with a point from play before an excellently finished goal from Paudie after a neat pass from Diarmuid put us ahead for the first time since the opening seconds.

Three points from Kanturk with a Paudie effort from play sandwiched in between levelled the game once again. The exchanges intensified at this stage but crucially the Cloyne backs were beginning to get on top with the full back line and Killian Cronin in particular thundering into the game.Kanturk in fact wouldn’t score for the remainder of the half and 5 unanswered scores from a Morry Lynch free, excellent points from play from Colm,Diarmuid and Ian and the highlight of them all a converted sideline cut on the 21 yard line from Paudie brought the curtain down on an excellent win.

The reward for this victory is a meeting with Fermoy in round 2A while Kanturk meet Kilworth in round 2B.
