East Cork Hurling League. May 19, Lisgoold 1-13 vs 3-18 Carrig na bhFear

Lisgoold fielded a team against Carrig na bhFear which excluded six prominent players in their East Cork hurling league game on Thursday May 19th in Lisgoold. Playing with the wind in the first half the game was tight throughout the half with the teams scoring point for point until Ciaran Cronin scored a goal directly from a puck out.  Carrig na bhFear responded with some more points and as half time approached they broke through for a goal.  At half time Lisgoold led by one point at a score of 1-10 to 1-9.  Bryan Sullivan, Noel Connery, Ciaran Cronin and John McCarthy scored from play in the first half while Maurice O Connell converted all frees. In the second half and playing against the wind Carrig na bhFear quickly scored a goal and this left Lisgoold fighting an uphill battle for the remainder of the match.  Carrig na bhFear got a grip on the game while Lisgoold found it hard to score against a crowded Carrig na bhFear defence. The game ended at a score of Lisgoold 1-13 to Carrig na bhFear 3-18.  Team: 1. Ciaran Cronin, 2. Andrew Donovan, 3. Eoin O’Sullivan 4. Peter Leahy 5. Bryan O’Sullivan, 6. Brendan Flynn, 7. Noel Connery, 8. Pa O’Mahony, 9. Caolan O’Brien, 10. Caomhan O’Shea, 11. John McCarthy, 12. Robert Smart, 13. Dinny O’Brien, 14. Maurice O’Connell, 15. Bill Whelan. Subs used: Barry Ahern.

Juvenile Round Up

The U14s hurlers continued their good run of form, qualifying for the next round of the championship after a fine win over Grenagh. A report on this match is given below. Elsewhere, our U12A hurlers had a fine win over Ballinhassig, whereas our U12C hurlers, narrowly lost out to Shamrocks and were second best to a good Lee Gaels side. Our U11 footballers lost out to St. Catherine’s.

U14 B Hurling Championship: Grenagh 3-07 vs 3-15 Lisgoold. 19 May 16

Report: Keith McSweeney

Fresh from their Feile exploits, the Lisgoold boys took to the pitch away to Grenagh to take them on in the first round of the hurling championship.  Settling well, we soon posted 3 fine points thanks to good interplay between Izaak, Duds & Oisin.  However, the Grenagh boys settled and worked very hard for their team.  Scoring 2 quick goals put Grenagh right back in the match.  We weathered their storm, scoring a number of fine points, but were still down a point a half time (2-3 to 0-8).   A few positional moves later, Izaak Walsh took over at full forward and posted some fine points from play and from frees, with his ground stroke for his goal a thing of beauty. With the ever hard working Cormac & Jamie supplying some great ball forward, Oisin finished another fine move to the net.  Still the Grenagh boys kept coming, and James O'Driscoll ably led the back line in repulsing their attacks.  We saw out the game for the finish, with some nice final contributions from Thomas Murphy, Eoin Holden, Noel O'Driscoll & Jamie O'Sullivan. In the next round we renew rivalries with St. Catherine’s this Friday night in Lisgoold. .

Senior Hurling

Congratulations to John Cronin who made his championship debut for Cork last Sunday in the Munster championship first round match versus Tipperary in Thurles. Coming on in the closing stages of the match, John managed to get on the ball several times, drawing two frees.
