Intermediate League.

Looking at the Division 1 hurling league table at the moment certainly doesn’t make pleasant reading as it shows us rooted to the bottom with 6 losses.

This doesn’t tell the full story though as 4 of these losses have been by 1 point as was the case again on Wednesday night last against Fermoy.

This was definitely our best performance of the campaign and two excellent first half goals from Colm and Paudie O’Sullivan had us 2 points to the good at half time, the only blot on the copybook was a Fermoy goal on the stroke of half time following a defensive mix-up.

Fermoy began the second half in determined mood and quickly set about leveling the game. We then pressed the self destruct button in having a player sent off following 2 yellow card offences, this had the reverse effect on the team as they upped their workrate all over the field and scoring some excellent points to press ahead by 5 points.

The tired legs gave up some frees which kept Fermoy in the game but with time up on the clock we were still 2 points to the good, but we hadn’t factored in a referee thinking he was at Musgrave Park as he played 7 minutes of injury time in the second half. Yes you’ve guessed it Fermoy scored a goal from a dubious 21 yard free in the sixth of the aforementioned seven.

It was disappointing not to secure the 2 points but the performance was excellently timed ahead of our championship game v Kanturk.
