Junior Round Up

It was a disappointing week on the playing front as our footballers lost out to Erin’s Own in the Division 1 football league and our hurlers were second best to Fr. O’Neills in the Division 1 hurling league.

East Cork JFL Div 1, Apr 16th Lisgoold 0-04 vs 6-08 Erin’s Own

East Cork JHL Div 1, Apr 17th Lisgoold 0-13 vs 2-23 Fr. O’Neills.

Junior Fixtures

There are a number of fixtures due to be confirmed including the East Cork JA FC fixture vs Glenville and the East Cork JB FC vs Carrig na bhFear. Currently, the County Junior A Hurling League is fixed for Apr 24 vs Ballyhooly at 18:00 (home) but this will depend on the dates the football championship fixtures are set.

Juvenile Round-Up

It was a quite enough week on the playing front as pitch closures continue to have an impact. On Wed night, our U16 hurlers lost out to Aghada on a scoreline 1-13 vs 4-08. On Sat morning, our U12s second string, battled well but lost out narrowly to Laochra Og on a 3-02 to 3-00 scoreline. James played well in goals, while the three Darraghs were excellent in defence. Kane and Matthew hurled well in midfield, while Billy, Jodi and Sean were a constant threat upfront.  All in all a good workout for a very young team.

U 16 C Football League. Apr 18 vs St Vincent’s at 7PM (away).

Leamlara National School Fun Run – Apr 22

Leamlara National School is holding a marathon fun run in the GAA Grounds on Fri, Apr 22nd at 7PM. Registration will open at 6:30 PM. The event will be suited to all ages and abilities. Runners or walkers can team up into groups and complete the marathon distance of 42 Km. Groups of school kids can do this by completing laps of the field while older runners can do the distance in smaller teams. If you don't have a team do not let this stop you as we will be helping people to make up teams. Remember to bring your own stop watch to record your time. This will be a lovely family centred community gathering you won't want to miss. The suggested donation is €5 (adults) and €2 (children). Refreshments will follow in the club house and there will be music for those who want to venture into Woods’ afterwards. Your support on the evening will be much appreciated and all proceeds will go directly to the school.

1916 Centenary Commemoration in Croke Park

The GAA is planning a special event to mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising. Following the Division One and Two Allianz Football League Finals at Croke Park on Sunday April 24, a show will be presented to commemorate the Rising, the Proclamation, the story of Gaelic Games and the GAA’s role since 1916. The show will incorporate large-scale innovative theatre, dance, song, poetry and pageantry. The goal is to fill Croke Park for these two major finals and an event that is of major significance in terms of the GAA contribution to the commemoration of the 1916 Rising. All club’s support in ensuring that it will be staged in front of a full house in Croke Park will be appreciated.

Lá na gClubanna – Sunday 8th May, 2016.

Lá na gClubanna will take place on Sunday, 8th May, 2016. This is an event to celebrate the role that GAA clubs play in communities. It was decided at the last Club Meeting that we would mark this special day by having a day of games, events and fun. There is potential for a great day and more details to follow as the program of events is developed.

‘Poo in the Pitch’

The Juvenile club will host a ‘Poo in the Pitch’ fund-raiser on Sun May 8th as part of the Lá na gClubanna activities. We will divide our pitch into squares, and then sell these squares; each square will be given to a ticket holder via a random draw. We then release the cow, belonging to a local dairy farmer into the field, and wherever she “completes her job", that squares owner will win a prize of €500! Your support for this fundraiser will be greatly appreciated.
